I suggest that you check out the HDDs integrity using the appropriate tool for your drive available @ http://www.tacktech....ttid=287#maxtor also can you look in the Device Manager, are there
any yellow ! marks or red Xs present, if you do not know the manufacturer of your HDD you can use the
dos version of Seatools which is also available at the attached link, can you provide the details for
the HDD the maximum storage capacity and the present amount of available free storage space the HDD has.

Although upgrade option is supported, it takes a lot of times and may be bad idea sometimes. Back-up all your critical files and things you don't want to loose, buy Windows 7 and perform clean install.

Sorry to have taken so long. I took your advice phillpower...I contacted Microsoft and I am currently waiting on a call from their research team to help me with the problem. This system is really messed up. Thanks for your help, I'll keep you posted.
Also available for checking your HDD http://www.vistax64....isk-chkdsk.html and;
@ ThreeGuser thank you for your input
I do however feel that until any important data has been backed up and the integrity of the HDD has been proven that the present HDD is not to be trusted
