I tried to search for a like problem, but man..computers sure like to freeze up!

Mine seems to be attached to browser use, especially when loading a new page. It just stops loading, the browser (firefox) goes "Not Responding" and I usually have to ctrl+alt+del and bring up the task manager to bring it back to life. This has been going on for a few weeks, but I can't think of anything that may have caused it. No new programs or drivers installed.
I had run ad-aware and found a Trojan which was removed. I've ran it again and it's been clean.
I've used CCleaner to clean everything up, but that doesn't seem to help.
Honestly, I've had nothing but trouble with this computer since I got it..but we're in no position to buy a new one.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Please do the following. :)

1.Would you please tell me which antivirus applications you have had previously on this machine any and all.The reason I ask is because some like to hang around after you uninstall via add remove programs and require the use of removal tools.

2.Just DONT us the registry cleaner function of CCleaner unless you know what you are deleting exactly!!

Then open ccleaner hit the tools button then startup second one down below uninstall then in the bottom right hand corner of ccleaner hit save to text file.Save it to your desktop and post the startup.txt here in your next reply.

3.Hit the start button in lower left hand corner. Then in the run box type msconfig, then hit the services tab then put a check mark in hide microsoft services what is listed there, after hiding microsoft services? Please post back to us in a vertical list.

4.Please download MiniToolBox HERE http://download.blee...MiniToolBox.exe When the box opens click save file, save it to the desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following boxes:

Flush Dns
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Click Go and post the result.

6.What kind of computer do you have exactly desktop laptop?Make model? 32/64Bit? Vista/Windows7?

I want to make one thing very clear DO NOT use the registry cleaner function of ccleaner!!

Since my last factory restore I have only had Avast! on this computer.
It is an HP Pavilion Desktop a6202n PC running Vista. It's about 4 years old.
I would not go near a registry cleaner as I have no idea what any of it means lol, not on purpose anyway!
Thank you!

Hi!
I did everything you asked, it seems to have either made it worse or it's just coincidence that it's acting up.
For instance, I started Firefox..it froze. Opening Task Manager got it going again.
I opened word (where I'd saved my list of services) and it froze..opening task manager froze task manager..waited and it worked again.
I wrote half of my first sentence, froze again. Waiting and oh crap I just had a blue screen crash dump....everything seems peaceful now.
OK! Well that was jarring lmao..here's my services list.
Thank you again for all of your help!

Hit start button at lower left hand corner of the screen. Then in the run box type services.msc right click Run As Admin. Find the service listed below, one at a time. left click it once you should have the option to either stop the service or restart it , stop the service then right click selected service select properties then change the startup type to manual then left click apply and move on to the next service. If the service is stopped and the startup type is manual then do nothing.

2. Run chkdsk /r
3.Open your computer and clean the inside with a can of compressed air.See video.
4.Open device manager and tell me if there are any yellow ? or ! marks. To open device manager
hit the windows key and pause at the same time,a window will pop up then select device manager.

sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r (THEY WILL BOTH NEED TO BE RUN IN AN ELEVATED COMMAND PROMPT!)

ELEVATED COMMAND PROMPT ====== Click Start, type cmd.exe When the Instant search results are shown, right-click the cmd.exe entry and choose Run as administrator.

AS YOU SAID THE DESKTOP IS 4 YEARS OLD I THINK NUMBER 3 IS REALLY NEEDED MAKE SURE AND UNPLUG THE TOWER PRIOR TO CLEANING.WHILE YOU HAVE THE RAM AND VIDEO CARD OUT BLOW OUT THE SLOTS THAT THEY PLUG INTO PRIOR TO RE-SEATING THEM.ALSO MAKE SURE TO CLEAN THE HEAT SINK IT TENDS TO GET A LOT OF DUST BUILD UP OVER TIME.BELOW IS A GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH FOR HEAT SINK TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA.

Hi, InstallDriver... was already disabled.
There are no warnings next to anything in Device Manager.
I'm running the scans now.
I just cleaned out the inside of the computer (I do it regularly)a few weeks ago when I got a new desk. Come to think of it, it may coincide with the freezing..but now I can't remember if it was doing it before.
The sfc scan found no integrity problems, I need to restart to run the chkdsk as there was too much process data, will now.

you may have bumped something while you were cleaning
after unplugging from the wall test every connection inside by unplugging then replugging it
