I am sorry about the confusion on my part.
I thought the driver that I sent from VIA


I tried installing the drivers and fixes and the same result occurs. The video driver is now listed as a display but still has a yellow exclamation mark on it. I will just live with the rebooting. Thank you for your help!


was the one that changed the other device to the to its correct place as the graphics adaptor.

I did not realise that it was from the

I had found the cd for the motherboard and refreshed all the drivers from that cd


I noticed that DriverMax was installed and good as it is, it does not always recommend the correct drivers.

I know you have tested the ram with Memtest, but I would try with one stick and if that does not stop the crashes, after trying with the other ONE stick

I would then try if you have one another stick of ram, preferably if you have one in the classification listed on the 533MHz or 667 Mhz

The reason I am thinking ram is that the error is again, freqently attributable to ram.

Although Memtest is excellent, there is nothing to beat the actual physical test where possible.

Finally removed the 2nd mem stick and am trying that. Also foound the cooling fan for my processor was dirty and cleaned it out,I will wait and see what happens now.

If the fans blades are dusty. please check carefully the dust build up on the actual cooling fins.

Yes those had to be cleaned off as well. So far no reboots and the only error is the microsoft update that can't install.

I am still running 1 stick... has not restarted at all. I will try the other stick today and see what happens.
Above is the log when I tried to install the update as you suggested.

Please go Control panel add/remove programs verify please that netframework 3.5 SP1 is shown as installed

The reason I ask is just to ensure that 3.5SP1 has been installed successfully, occasionally windows update offers the 3.5SP1 patch, knowing that 3.5SP1 has previously been downloaded, but failing to recognise that, the installation itself failed.

If it is installed, before we consider other solutions
please go start, run and type

msiexec.exe

which installer version do you have please..
for the update that failed you must have

Windows Installer 3.1 or a later version

If you DO have 3.1 it may be best, in any case, to install the latest 4.5 version while you are working on that aspect
If you DO NOT have 3.1 or later then that is why the update failed.

ok 2nd mem stick is in #1 slot and I updated the installer to version 4.5.I removed the .net framework 3.5 sp1 from the program list and the update still will not finish properly.

Would you please clarify, do you mean you UNINSTALLED as if so the update certainly will NOT install as it requires 3.5SP1 to be installed in the first please.

What version was the installer please before you updated to 4.5

She removed the failed .net framework 3.5 installation from Add\Remove Macboatmaster :thumbsup:
Then tried to reinstall it using your link above and it still fails. :confused:

I trust you do not view my reply as being pedantic, but the link I sent in the first place - this one

was the direct download for the security update to the Net Framework 3.5 with SP1. - update KB2657424

and of course it did not install.

I then asked if you would kindly check in Add/Remove programs if the Net Framework 3.5 SP1 was itself shown as installed.
(I actually never suggested removing/ uninstalling the installation)

I am sorry to labour the point., but still being uncertain as to which has been uninstalled may I suggest that you
1. TRY ONCE MORE in Safe Mode, to install the above update. It may be that some other program is using net framework and if so the update cannot be applied.
It may also be worth while tryiing the install with your Anti Virus disabled.

If that is NOT successful
1. Create a restore point
2. Go here

follow the instructions to use not the remove but the repair

4. If that does not work then I recommend you consider the use of the Net Framework cleanup tool here

HOWEVER it is important to note FIRST which Net Frameworks are being "cleaned" as it those that you must then install again.

Net Framework 3.5 SP1

Uninstalled because it said it never installed right. It did show in add remove but again the installation always failed malcom :confused:

The above is the only one she is trying to install. The 4.5 file I believe did install for her finally and then she tried to install the net 3.5 and it again failed but showed up in add remove again. :wacko:
