Yes, I wanted to see if there had been any change after running RogueKiller.

Now

  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on the OTL icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    %systemdrive%\$Recycle.Bin|@;true;true;true
    /md5start
    tcpip.sys
    services.*
    explorer.exe
    winlogon.exe
    Userinit.exe
    /md5stop
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan won't take long.
When the scan completes, it will open a notepad window. OTL.Txt. This is saved in the same location as OTL.

Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents post back here.

Well I am not seeing anything there.

Let's do this just to make sure.

Please download the latest version of TDSSKiller from here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then click on Change parameters.
    Posted Image
  • Put a checkmark beside loaded modules.
    Posted Image
  • A reboot will be needed to apply the changes. Do it.
  • TDSSKiller will launch automatically after the reboot. Also your computer may seem very slow and unusable. This is normal. Give it enough time to load your background programs.
  • Then click on Change parameters in TDSSKiller.
  • Check all boxes then click OK.
    Posted Image
  • Click the Start Scan button.
    Posted Image
  • The scan should take no longer than 2 minutes.
  • If a suspicious object is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
    Posted Image
  • If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.
Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.
    Posted Image
Note: If Cure is not available, please choose Skip instead, do not choose Delete unless instructed.
  • A report will be created in your root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt". Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.

Hi Emerald ... this was the toughest of all the directions you gave me - a couple things :

1) I DONT think I was running the latet version of this Kaspersky tool - this is because when I double clicked to run the program it immediately asked if I wished to update the program to the latest version. I tried 4x but it just kept ignoring my attempts to update so i ran the older version.
2) Inadvertantly, I actually did NOT SEE the "CURE" options as default so I dropped down to the "delete" option - THEN I saw the note below the screen shot that you provided to me advising that I DO NOT DELETE but "skip" - I realized I have made the error but before I clicked "reboot now" (which was the only option that was made available after I had selected "delete") I grabbed a screen shot of exactly WHAT was about to be deleted just in case you needed to see that info. It is attached along with this reply.

I hope I didnt screw things up but I am sure you will let me know if I have !

Thanks for all this help you have been offering me - Im not too sure what more to say now !!!!

Let's have a look then.

Also has there been any change in your machine?

Hi Emerald ... I think the computer is responding a bit better ... to let you know ...I am a full time trader - I run some pretty "CPU" draining applications - it was when I use those aplications that I really notice the drop in performance and this WAS NOT the case 3 months ago when I bought this brand new computer. (ASUS) I am sure you can see what I have in my system given all the diagnostics we have run so it is hard for me to say. Has it stoed freezing completely on me - YES ... but I can still "feel" the lag. One last thing ... I play the EA sport game TIGER WOODS ... (great game by the way) .. when swinging or putting it is incredibly laggy (again that was NEVER the case 3 months ago - it ran beautifully) ... the EA sports monitor now pops open a window telling me my CPU performance is poor and will affect the outcome of my gaming experience. So I KNOW something is up.

Thanks Emerald for you continued support ..

Can you show me that screen shot?

Also let's see what security programs you have... maybe there is something there slowing you down.

Please download Security Check by screen317 from here .

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

ExpressGateUtil is part of Asus utilities. Not an essential Windows file. Unlikely it was bad.

Norton has sometimes been a problem in slowing down machines although the recent versions are not supposed to be so bloated. Up to you whether you try uninstalling to see if that makes a difference. If you do, make sure you install a replacement AV.

I am not seeing Malware as the main cause of your problem. Nevertheless we will carry out an on line anti-virus scan to make sure we haven't missed anything. After that, all going well, we will remove the tools we have been using and think about what else might be the problem with your machine.

One thing that might be worth thinking about is overheating...

Now

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner

Vista / Win7 users: Right-click on the either the IE or FF icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select Run as Administrator.

Note: This scan works with Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox.

If using Mozilla Firefox you will need to download esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe when prompted then double click on it to install.

  • Click the green ESET Online Scanner box
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
    then click on: Start
  • You may see a panel towards the top of the screen telling you the website wants to install an addon... click and allow it to install. If your firewall asks whether you want to allow installation, say yes.
  • Make sure that the option Scan archives is checked.
  • Now click on Advanced Settings and select the following:
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  • Click on Start
  • The virus signature database will begin to download. Be patient this make take some time depending on the speed of your Internet Connection.
  • When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically. The scan may take several hours.
  • Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan otherwise it may stall.
  • When completed select Uninstall application on close, make sure you copy the logfile first!
  • Then click on: Finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt.
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.

this was the only Txt. log that I could find ... here is what my directory looked like ...
18-09-2012 6-46-29 AM.jpg

I hope I did this right - I selected "uninstall" and "delete" before exiting the program. The txt. log just looks much shorter than others I have posted back to you.

Thanks Emerald !
