I have an issue with my internet connection connecting(supper supper slow)

Found some things that got my interest and just wanted to see if these settings were ok or should they be changed? No, I haven't touched anything. I have an issue with my internet connection connecting(supper supper slow)and a lot of times it's just faster to go in and disable then enable the network. I'm "Suppose" to be getting 30mbps download(HA!) but I'm lucky to get 10 and on good days I may even get 12mbps. According to their(BH) speed test(which they use Ookla.). When I do Ookla at the same time I get anywhere from 5 to 9.8 Mbps.) My videos are really crappy and they said that it was the wiring in my home that was causing this. I didn't have this problem until my personal router went down and I thought I would try theirs  at $3.50 a month . I think I thought Like A Lit! ( a saying my better half says when he makes wrong choices. lol)
Don't know if it makes a difference but everything works just fine from my smart phone(videos, connections...)
Soooo....if anyone can advise or may have suggestions please don't hesitate to respond.

None of the things you mention are going to stop you from connecting.   If it's a new router and the old one worked fine then I expect the router is at fault.  Is this DSL or Cable?  What is the make and model of the router.  What version of Windows are you using?  Is this wireless or wired?  If wireless have you tried wired?

Go to http://www.speedtest.net/ and click on Begin Test

When the Test finishes click on Share This Result and then select Forum then Copy then move to a reply and Ctrl + v

You might try changing the DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.1  sometimes that will help with connections.

Hey RKinner, Thanks for replying.  Its a router from my cable company Brighthouse. My router took a dive and I thought it may be good to rent one from them. Wrong . I could go a far distance outside with my Belkin before it croaked (Lights would flash intermittently. Was told it was on it's way out) over a 100 ft. Theirs only goes 50 ft. I keep getting conflicting reasons/excuses as to why/what is going on from them(BH).

You might try changing the DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.1  sometimes that will help with connections.

How do I go about doing that?

Could my memory cards cause this if they were going bad? Just asking.

32 bit Vista

cable

Motorola SBG6580FC

I'm wired now and still have the same issues

It hasn't been this high in weeks. But the videos still stink for viewing.

Its a router from my cable company Brighthouse.

I need to know the make and model number.  Turn it over and look for a label.  Is there a separate cable modem or is this an all in one?

What PC is this and what operating system.

You might try changing the DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.1  sometimes that will help with connections.

How do I go about doing that?

Assuming you have Windows 7 since you didn't say.  Follow the steps on http://www.opennicpr...s-in-windows-7/ until you get to step 5.  Then instead of doing the Advanced just check the Use the Following DNS Server Addresses and fill in 8.8.8.8. for the top box and 4.2.2.1 for the second box then OK.  IF it makes things worse you can put it back by just checking Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically and OK.

I'm sorry I didn't put your questions in quotes and give my answer after. They are all in my reply.

Is this DSL or Cable?

cable

What is the make and model of the router.

Motorola - SBG6580FC

What version of Windows are you using?

32 bit- Vista- IE9 For Windows Vista

Is this wireless or wired?  If wireless have you tried wired?

Yes It was/is. - Yes, I'm wired now and still have the same issues

Hope I answered your questions. And no, I don't have Windows 7, but wouldn't mind having one. A fixed income only allows for so much.

Vista and Win 7 are essentially the same as far as setting the DNS server so see if you can do that.

Get the free version of Speccy:

http://www.filehippo...download_speccy  (Look in the upper right for the Download
Latest Version button  - Do NOT press the large Start Download button on the upper left!)  Download, Save and Install it.  Run Speccy.  When it finishes (the little icon in the bottom left will stop moving), File, Save as Text File,  (to your desktop) note the name it gives. OK.  Open the file in notepad and delete the line that gives the serial number of your Operating System.  (It will be near the top about 10 lines down.) Attach the file to your next post.

Copy the next two lines:

netstat -es > \junk.txt
notepad \junk.txt

Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and Run as Administrator, Continue.  Right click and Paste or Edit then Paste and the copied lines should appear.
Hit Enter if notepad does not open.  Copy and paste the text from notepad into a reply.  Close notepad.  Close the Command Window.

Get Process Explorer

Save it to your desktop then run it (Vista or Win7 - right click and Run As Administrator).

View, Select Column, check Verified Signer, OK
Options, Verify Image Signatures

Click twice on the CPU column header  to sort things by CPU usage with the big hitters at the top.

Wait a full minute then:

File, Save As, Save.  Open the file Procexp.txt on your desktop and copy and paste the text to a reply.

Not sure if it really made a big difference after changing the DNS. Isn't really going any faster on the

loading of the pages and the musical videos I watched on YouTube play clean through with no freezing

but got pixeling. But on the Facebook video It kept freezing but no pixeling. It didn't make it worst but it didn't make it better.

CPU
Intel Celeron 900 @ 2.20GHz 70 °C

It's running too hot.  A hot PC is a slow PC as the CPU will slow down to protect itself.  Make sure the PC is on a hard surface and keep it away from direct sunlight or other sources of heat.  A soft surface will block the air vents.  What usually happens is the heatsink fins get clogged with dirt.  Getting to them to clean them is sometimes a real pain.  If you search on Google with your PC's part number you will probably find a Youtube video on how to take it apart.  Generally this is not a job for a novice tho.  A laptop cooler tray might help.   Big Lots usually has some for about $10.

Try speedfan

Download, save and Install it (Win 7 or Vista right click and Run As Admin.) then run it.

It will tell you your temps.  If they seem hot (over 50) then check Automatic Fan Speed.
Leave it running and see if the temps drop.
Also prop up the back of the laptop with a book (don't block the vents).  This will improve heat flow.

Uninstall Speccy now as you do not need it any more.

Let's make sure you don't have too much using the CPU:

Get Process Explorer

Save it to your desktop then run it (Vista or Win7 - right click and Run As Administrator).

View, Select Column, check Verified Signer, OK
Options, Verify Image Signatures

Click twice on the CPU column header  to sort things by CPU usage with the big hitters at the top.

Wait a full minute then:

File, Save As, Save.  Open the file Procexp.txt on your desktop and copy and paste the text to a reply.

What usually happens is the heatsink fins get clogged with dirt.

Is there anything else that may cause it to over heat?

Generally this is not a job for a novice tho.

I Googled and watched. It's not that complicated to take apart just sooooo many parts and I don't have the right tools for it. Sure I could probably find something close to what they use. I'd rather have a tech do it or just get a notebook while I took this one apart just in case I have screws left over.

A laptop cooler tray might help

Have one but I don't think it's powerful enough.

While trying to watch the video  I checked the temp and it went way up to 90c but yet the top of the lappy feels cool not hot ?? Why is that?

Process Explorer does not show any process hogging the CPU.  90 is way too high.  Like you say it's not impossible with the right tools.  Having screws left over is a distinct possibility.  Best to take digital pictures and label the screws as you remove them.  Don't trust your memory.  Some appear the same but are just a tad longer or bigger.  If you don't feel comfortable doing it then let a pro do it.

Before you start digging any deeper, let's eliminate any network connectivity problems. The easiest way is to use the link below:
http://www.netscan.co/ there is a single button you need to press to start the tests...
The Connectivity Checker will perform a series of network tests for modern Web Services like WebSockets and WebRTC. A unique url will be created with the results which you can then share with an expert or share here and we'll hopefully understand what is your problem or then we'll start digging deeper!)
