Hi rshaffer61,

Thanks for posting the link link to the possible fix.

However, i'm not sure any of the fixes suggested in the link (or the issues raised) are related to my issue.

Just to quickly outline the content of the link:

- The issue in the link is with Win XP and a blank screen with flashing cursor and not being able to load up windows XP at all.

My issue is with win 7 and only with a restart. I get a completely blank black screen (no cursor) but CAN boot from cold start.

- When i installed XP, my PC works fine and the restart works fine too. Only in Win 7 was i getting the restart issue.

- Most of the solutions in the link relate to repairing win XP or repair MBR on the HD. But i've tried different hard drives and the boot up for win7 and win XP works fine. Only restart in win 7 is the issue.

- Another solution in the link was the size of the HD (larger than 137gb caused problems). But the 2nd HD i used was 40gb.

Is there any specific fix within the link you posted which you thought might be a solution to the issue i'm having?

I don't mind trying the chkdsk, fixMBR, etc suggested in the link (i've tried everything else so got nothing to lose :))  but I don't think this will affect the issue with windows 7 retsarts that i'm having.

Thanks,

Shuja

Let me ask if you try to boot into Safe Mode does the issue still happen?
If so the system will stop at the last file that loaded or tried to load. Can you tell me what file that is.

Don't need a system disk to boot into safe mode. Restart and on second post screen start tapping F8.
This will give you the advance boot menu.
You will see Safe Mode
Safe Mode With Networking
Last Known Good Configuration That Worked.
Try highlighting Safe Mode and see if it will boot directly in.
