Hello

Close all open applications and try again. Make sure your browser is closed after you download flash to the desktop and any other application for that matter

Use the link below:

http://fpdownload.ma...lash_player.exe

This link just provides additional information for you.

Also, just tried to install the flash player on a 2 month old (new) desktop and it did not work either. Double clicking the exe file didn't amount to much, so I wonder

if that link is somehow corrupt?

Restore the computer back to factory settings is a great idea. Doing that is just like reinstalling windows you realize that right, you would loose all your data, and you would be starting all over again.

Do you know how to do it on this computer ?

Sometimes there is a partition on the drive, sometimes you need a disk to do it. Do you have any discs ?

Again what is the make and model. That way we can find out how it is done on this particular computer.

Hi Joe,

I realize that I would loose all the data, but that is not too bad!

here is some info that might help:

Inspiron 14R (N4010, Early 2010)

Service Tag: 825ZBN1 | Express Service Code: 17545237165

MS Windows 7    64 bit

you ask, "Do you have any discs ?"

Not sure what you mean, but I have an external hard drive upon which I could copy the important bits.

Went to the Dell homepage and their forum and posted the question wrt how to reset to factory settings,

so hopefully will get a good reply.

Thanks, and best, J

Hi Joe,

it took me around a dozen attempts to finally get into the 'safe mode', so will now click on 'Repair'

and hopefully the computer will work better than.

Thanks, J

Hello,

I just had the most awesome help from zep516 and my computer is now running suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper  :)

And I installed Microsoft Essentials to protect it, but I guess there are a few other things that would be good to put on my computer!

I am pretty sure you have a thread about that somewhere here, but I could not find it, so if anybody please could help the

blind man, I would be very greatful.

Many thanks, Juglar 21

And, btw, I think on your website you have a thread about what software one should have to protect the computer.

Can you please post me the link or say where I would find that?

Thanks again, J.

OK,

You need to visit windows up date and get all the up dates required have you done that ?

You usually get infected because your security settings are too low.

Here are a number of recommendations that will help tighten them, and which will contribute to making you a less likely victim:

Thanks
