Hello lads!

 

In the last days I can't sign in Yahoo Messenger.

 

First I thought it is a global problem because appears the message: "Yahoo Messenger Troubleshooter. We can't sign you into YM", but now I'm wonder if isn't.

 

It is odd because I can connect to mail with the mail, so not the password it's the problem. Plus, I can sign in on my account from another PC.

 

Because of the problem I upgrade my YM! to the last version (11.5.0.228-us) but still can't connect.

 

I uninstall the program too (with Perfect Uninstaller) and the reinstall with a fresh one, but the problem persist. I hear other persons havea similar problem.

 

Any ideas? (I prefer to not reinstall Windows. BTW, I use Windows XP, Sp2).

* Hmmm. What can I say you it is in the last month (or maybe 2 months?!) I notice the slow of connection when I try to log in (must push cancel button and the reconnect to sign in). The only program in the last days that I install was "Yammy" a kind of manager of messages (you know in message archive you can't search with Ctrl+F a term, so I needed a solution to find that information - some numbers)

Perhaps a system restore will help us out.  Try it out and let us know if this fixes your problem.  If not, maybe it will allow you to run the MiniToolBox, at least.

 

How to use System Restore to restore Windows XP to a previous state

To use System Restore to restore Windows XP to a previous state, follow these steps:

1. Log on to Windows as an administrator.
2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. (The screen shot for this step is listed below).
   
   
   
3. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click to select the Restore my computer to an earlier time option, and then click Next. (The screen shot for this step is listed below).

System restore not change the problem.

I still can't download the MiniToolBox. Give that error.

I'm assuming you're attempting this download through Firefox, is that correct?  What happens if you try the download from Internet Explorer?
 

If you are using a Firefox extension to manage your downloads, try disabling the extension via "Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions".

Another possible solution is to close Firefox completely and delete the "compreg.dat" file from the Firefox profile folder.

If neither works, maybe try booting up in Safe Mode w/ Networking and give it another shot (with multiple browsers).  To boot up in Safe Mode w/ Networking:

1. Click Start > Run > msconfig
    
2. Click the Boot tab at top
    
3. Select Safe Mode + Networking (may require 2 different check boxes)
    
4. Apply > OK > reboot
    
5. Try the MiniToolBox download

Yes, you are right. I use Firefox.

 

I tryed in IE, but it is a old version. I can't acces your link. Give to many errors.

It is strange I see a Yahoo toolbar. And said something can't transfer or connect to (server?!).

I think it came with that manager of YM messages, Yammy (?!).

 

Now I try to delete compreg.dat, and then, if doesn't work, safe mode.

 

BTW, In safe mode you can download?

Hm... compreg.dat it is not in the Mozilla folder (I follow the steps from your "Firefox profile folder" link).

In safe mode at least I download and use MiniToolBox.

 

It is a log results. I must upload all text or the notepad document?

Great!  Glad to hear you were finally able to download and run the program.


Once you run MiniToolBox, you can just copy/paste the log results into your next post.


Now that you've managed to actually download it, you probably don't have to be in Safe Mode when using the program/pasting the results.


One step at a time!  I'll just need the logs from your next post before I can make any more suggestions on what to do next...


Meanwhile, if you'd like to disable the Yahoo toolbar...
 

1. Open Firefox window
2. Ctrl + Shift + A (all 3 buttons at once)
3. Click Extensions
4. Locate, in the list presented, the extension that enables Yahoo's toolbar (probably called Yahoo toolbar or something similar).
5. Select that extension.
6. Click the button Disable or the button Uninstall.
7. Restart Firefox for the changes to take effect.

I'm very sorry for the delayed response on my part.  Thanks for posting the log!  I don't see anything that looks to be an obvious problem (though I must admit I'm not familiar with some of your installed programs)... maybe try a couple things for me first:

1)  Try launching YM! by right clicking the icon and click Run as Administrator (this may have no effect, but might as well try it)

2)  If the complete lockout didn't happen until you downloaded Yammy, I would remove that first and then try to sign in


Let me know if there is any change... if not, you may want to post on the malware forum and see if you can get someone to verify that your PC is not infected.
