Hi there,
I broke my laptop screen a while back now and have been using an external monitor. Back before this issue I was guess working when to press enter on the start up menu to get to my login screen, because I could never get my monitor to work until the login screen was reached, and then when turning the computer off putting it on hibernate so that I wouldn't have to go through the startup menu again.. as it would take me a while to get through it.
But now I've encountered an issue where Windows has corrupted and I need to boot by CD to get it working again; When my computer goes past the startup screen my external monitor turns on and gives me a screen which shows black and my cursor, appose to the usual login menu. I've narrowed it down to what the issue is but can't get my monitor working on startup to boot from CD.
Because I can't see my screen during startup I'm unable to boot by CD.. in order to try and get my external monitor on and working during startup I've tried: FN + F4 which has the 'l 0 l' symbol on the key (My laptops supposed turn monitor on/off button that doesn't seem to work) , I've tried disconnecting the laptops LCD monitor, I've tried having the monitor plugged in when it's off and turning the laptop on with it in and I've tried plugging it in after the laptop has been turned on.. I'm not sure what to do now.
The computer is with HP.. I would tell which model it is but I can't get into windows to find out and it's not located on the computer anywhere.. I don't have a box and purchase information so I can't find it through that way either. :/ From guessing though I think it's a model of HP pavilion.
The external monitor I'm trying to connect is a VGA connection.
My computer is with Windows 7.
Thanks for any replies, I would be very grateful to find a solution to this issue as it's quite an important computer for me and.. an issue I have been having, though not addressing, for about 6 months now.
Thanks again,
Virtual Insanity.
