- Uninstalled/deleted all tools we used to clean up the computer

 

- Updated all programs that were out of date. Avast prompted it, I followed its instructions.

 

- I know about Adobe programs updates, so I do them regularly 

 

- Had already uninstalled Java, don't think I'll install it again

 

- Disabled Javascript in Adobe Reader

 

- Installed and ran Speedyfox (Chrome is my default browser)

 

- Not using a P2P program ever again. I think that's what caused the problem in the first place, so I removed Utorrent and all the files downloaded using it before I started working with you here.  

 

- I have a Wireless router. I use TKIP/AES encryption on it. Changed the default password and the encryption password today. 

 

- Windows updates is turned on and working properly

 

- Installed Cryptoprevent 

 

- I'm keeping Avast. It runs smoothly and is very user friendly. 

 

Question: Do I have to upgrade to Windows 10? I don't know why I'm reluctant to do so. Maybe it's because I'm so used to my Windows 7 and it hasn't given me any trouble so far... So, is there any problem if I don't upgrade?

I am never an early adopter of new versions of Windows.  I usually wait until service Pack 1 comes out.  The disadvantage to waiting this time is that you may lose the free upgrade (I read somewhere this is a limited time offer - not sure how seriously they mean it tho) and you will have to put up with the nagging to update (tho there are ways to remove that if it bothers you).  No doubt the reason that they are offering the free upgrade is so they can stop supporting Win 7 sooner.  I really hate working with Windows 8 and even tho Win 10 is supposed to be more like 7 I haven't updated anything yet.  Probably do my Win 8 when we get back from vacation in 2 weeks.

Yeah, I tried working with Windows 8 too and hated it. I'm gonna stand my ground for now and keep Windows 7. We're schedueled to get Windows 10 on my computer at work so I'll see what it's all about and, if I like it, I might upgrade at home too. Thanks for the feedback.

So, anything else I need to do now, or should I just ask where to send a good bottle of Kentucky burbon?
