Sorry for the delay.  Was on a 3 day trip.

Open an enhanced Command Prompt:

Start, All Programs, Accessories then right click on Command Prompt and Run as Administrator.

Then type (with an Enter after each line).

regsvr32  EVENTCLS.DLL

and hit Enter.  You will probably get a little popup that says the Module was loaded but it may complain that the entry point was not found or some other error.  I just want to see if it can load the dll since the event log said it wasn't loading.  If it says it can't load it then I need to know that.

The clock sometimes gives you that error the first time you change it.  Go back in and see if it tells you when the clock was last updated.

Hi RKinner

I hope your trip was good.

I got no error pop ups after running 'regsvr32  EVENTCLS.DLL' in the cmd prompt ......................... I assume that that is good.

I also can't find when the clock was last updated but it does say it's due it's next sychronization on Thursday morning at 10.26am.

Any thoughts?

Slime.

P.S. I've also noticed that I've stopped getting notifications from this site despite my settings remaining unchanged!

Try one of the other time servers.  See if you can get one to work.

Run VEW again for system and Application and let's see if things look better

I tried all five time servers .................................... none of which worked!

Is there a way of uninstalling and then reinstalling the clock?

Run VEW again for system and Application and let's see if things look better

Here are the logs;

Attached File  VEW App 04-10.txt   9.31KB   291 downloads

Attached File  VEW Sys 04-10.txt   16.35KB   282 downloads

What is fm.exe?  It's causing a lot of errors.

MSE is not updating correctly.  Can you try the free Avast instead?

Click on Download then choose the free version.

Download, Save but don't install yet.

Uninstall MSE and then reboot.

Right click on the Avast installer you downloaded and Run As Admin.

Stick with the free "basic" version.
Register when they ask you to.

Is it able to get its updates?

FM is a game I downloaded from Steam. FM stands for Football Manager.

I've been playing it for years.

I'm now using the free version and have also registered.

I went to update the definitions and the programme but was quickly informed that I'm fully up to date.

Anything else I can do?

Again, many thanks,

Slime.

P.S. I'm still not getting email notifications.

Hi mate.

New problem I'm afraid!

Unfortunately, since installing Avast, I am unable to receive emails.

I keep getting the following message;

Email problem with Avast..jpg

Any thoughts?

Seems to be a common complaint with Thunderbird.

http://forums.mozill...?f=39&t=2351507

What do you have under

Look under menu path Edit -> Account Settings->Server Settings->Server name.

Before you give up on Avast let it run a boot-time scan tonight:

Open Avast, Scan, Scan for Viruses, Change the Quick Scan (in the box in the center of the page) to Boot-time Scan.  Then at the bottom of the page click on Scan Settings.

Make sure both boxes are checked and click on the gray box to the right of the orange ones.  It should turn orange.  Change where it says "Fix Automatically" to "Move to
Chest."  OK.  Now click on Start and then close Avast.  Mute your speakers so it doesn't wake you up when Windows boots.

When you reboot you will see the scan start.  It will tell you where it saves its log.  Usually it's C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report\aswBoot.txt but it might change so verify the location.   This is a hidden location so you will need to tell Windows to let you see it:

Copy and paste the text from the log to a Reply when done.

Thanks mate, I'll try that overnight as I have the impression it might just take a while!

I'll report back tomorrow :spoton: .

I did find some very helpful information on an Avast! FAQ page.

Currently my email issues seem to be resolved!

I am, however, still not getting email notifications from this site and one other that I'm aware of.

Other sites I subscribe too seem to be fine :headscratch:.

Thanks always,

Slime.
