Hello,

 

I'm new here and have a question in regards to wifi connection. My dilemma is whether I should buy a cheap wifi extender or another Google wifi to help with my wifi connection.

 

Here's my situation:

• I live in a close to 1,000 sq ft rectangular shape apartment.
• My bedroom is at the exact opposite end of the room where the Google wifi is, not just straight opposite, it's diagonal, the furthest apart in the apartment. Thus, this creates the connection problem, my iPad can barely connect to wifi in my bedroom. It's good when it's connected but it keeps dropping off, I have to keep turning the wifi on my iPad on and off in order for it to be connected for a few minutes or seconds before it drops off again. 
• This is actually the reason why I bought the Google wifi, I had trouble connecting to the numerous routers that I had before. Google wifi is supposed to provide coverage over 1,000 sq ft. Although Google wifi gives me the same problem, it is definitely better than my other routers. The connection from other areas of the apartment is better and the signal is reflected correctly. My iPad used to show a full bar connection for previous routers while in fact the connection was dropped.  
• The room next to my bedroom, which is the straight opposite end of the Google wifi actually does not have the same problem, not sure if the extra diagonal distance or the walls have caused the wifi instability in my room. 
• P.S. I cannot move the Google wifi since it has to be close to the modem and the cable modem cannot be moved due to the location of the cable. 
• Not sure if this is an Apple vs. Google thing, my nexus phone seems to have better luck with Google wifi in my bedroom although still unstable, it's less unstable than the iPad air.

 

Here's my question:

• Is it worth spending $129+ to get another Google wifi to cover for my bedroom?
• Should I just get the $30 wall plug wifi extender? If so, will it work well with the Google wifi?

Double click to install it. Then run it by right click and Run As Admni.

 

It will show you a graph in the bottom right that has your signal in blue and competing signals in orange and yellow.  It may also recommend a different channel which might have less interference.

 

Moving to a different channel (by logging on to your router) can drastically improve performance without buying new equipment.

 

A NETGEAR N300 Wall Plug Version Wi-Fi Range Extender (WN3000RP) located about 500 feet from the wireless router would probably work.  

 

 

You can also get the kind that work through the AC lines.  I have a

 

NETGEAR Powerline 500 + N300 WiFi and 1 Port Starter Kit (XWNB5201) NETGEAR N300 Wall Plug Version Wi-Fi Range Extender (WN3000RP) and it works nicely.
