I don't get it. :tazz:

Click Start > Run > copy & paste regedit /e c:\newwindow.txt "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" > OK

This will create a text file c:\newwindow.txt

Post the content of that file please.

It was what I meant, but I didn't find what I expected.

Lets have a look at another part of the registry
Click Start > Run > copy & paste regedit /e c:\urlmonpointer.txt "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{79eac9e0-baf9-11ce-8c82-00aa004ba90b}\InprocServer32" > OK

This will create a text file c:\urlmonpointer.txt

Post the content of that file please.

Can you try something for me?

Copy the part in bold below into notepad and save it as forcenewwindow.reg
Set filetype to "All files"

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"AllowWindowReuse"=dword:00000000

Now doubleclick the file with all IE windows closed and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.
After the prompt that is was successfull open IE and try again.

no, the links that require a new window to pop up still don't work. Other links that just change pages do work. I never had a problem with that. Only getting pages in new windows is my problem.

I found another place where we can look.

This command:
regedit.exe /e C:\whatwindows.txt "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\New Windows"

creates the file C:\whatwindows.txt
Post the content of that file.

Okay, I did that... and made sure it was copy/pasted right. This time it did not make the whatwindows.txt file at all.

I'm also starting to see more troubles now. The McAfee Virus Scanner is outdated and we have never paid to upgrade it, it is pretty much useless now. Now we rely on AVG and TrendMicro Housecall for virus scanners. So, since McAfee is useless, I just turn it off because it slows the computer down. Well, ever since I did all the things you requested I now get an error message when I turn off McAfee:

Explorer

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

Then I get the white screen with Active Desktop Recovery and have to Restore my active desktop to get my wallpaper back.

I don't know if this error message is relevant to the situation we are working on. Let me know if I need to post this part elsewhere, and I will.

Thank you so much for trying to help. You are greatly appreciated. :tazz:

Maybe it's better to uninstall McAfee if you will no longer use it.

Simply turning an AV off is not something that will simply work without problems.
These programs are integrated deep in your system in order to be able to protect you. They will cause all kinds of errors if you don't remove them properly.

Post a HijackTHis log when you are done so I can see if all the startups are gone.
