Hi,
No problem on the delay. I'm appreciative that the forum is here.

What I've done thus far:
I've run HJT and fixed things that were obvious to me.
I've run Adaware and Spybot and fixed all things found.
I've also uninstalled some malicious things through Add/Remove Programs.

I have not done anything in safe mode. Or through msconfig, etc.
I don't think I'm clean yet. The stchost keeps recreating itself in the HJT log.
And I'm still getting pop-ups.

Let me know if you need more info, here's the latest HJT: thanks

Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact names. There were several of them and they were obvious things to identify, like online gambling, search engines, etc. I should have written them down but was just trying to clean things up.

K, well if u happen to remember, let me know, I am sure the folders are still there.

Download rkfiles http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip and unzip the contents to a new folder on your desktop

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

REBOOT TO SAFE MODE. This tool MUST be run in safe mode!

Once in safe mode, double click rkfiles.bat file to run it. It will scan for a while, so please be patient. Wait until the DOS window closes. The log file will be C:\log.txt

Reboot back to normal mode and post the contents of log.txt in your next post

Hi Andyy,

Download and install CleanUp! Here*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.
We will use this program later.

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4. Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for stchost.exe (moto) and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.

5. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

6. Open HiJack and do a scan.

7. Put a Check next to the following items:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windup...e/bridge-c9.cab
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{94DA7127-4609-4910-A5C0-09F2371F7E95}: NameServer = 69.50.188.180 85.255.112.5
O23 - Service: stchost.exe (moto) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\stchost.exe

8. click the Fix Checked box

9. Please remove just the files from the following paths using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\stchost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\svcnut32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bH.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ole32vbs.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\gclib.exe

10. Run the program CleanUp!

11. Reboot into normal mode and please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

12. Please post the Active scan log and a fresh HiJackThis log. Let me know how your computer is running.

OK, here's where it's at thus far.

I've followed all your directions.
Downloaded Cleanup.
In safe mode - ran services.msc
stchost was already stopped, I changed startup type to disabled

Ran HJT, fixed these:
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windup...e/bridge-c9.cab

These were not there:
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{94DA7127-4609-4910-A5C0-09F2371F7E95}: NameServer = 69.50.188.180 85.255.112.5
O23 - Service: stchost.exe (moto) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\stchost.exe

Removed all files you identified from C:WINDOWS and SYSTEM32

Ran Clean up.

Back in normal mode, the taskbar at bottom of screen looked different. Worked fine just looked different. Maybe Cleanup erased some settings?

Tried to use Activescan twice, locked up the computer each time. So that has not been successfully completed.

Ran fresh HJT log. I noticed...

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{94DA7127-4609-4910-A5C0-09F2371F7E95}: NameServer = 69.50.188.180 85.255.112.5

...has reappeared. I haven't done anything with it yet.

Here's the HJT log:

Lets finish cleaning u up, then we will take care of the theme problem.

In normal mode open up hijack this and check the follow:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{94DA7127-4609-4910-A5C0-09F2371F7E95}: NameServer = 69.50.188.180 85.255.112.5

Click "fixed check" and close HJT.
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • click on "delete an NT service"
  • Copy and paste this in: moto
  • Click "ok", then reboot
In normal mode

Please download Trend Micro™ Anti-Spyware for the Web Utility (by clicking the "Scan and Clean your PC" button).
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click the new icon on your desktop (tmas-web-scan.exe)
  • It will say "Loading TrendMicro definitions".
  • Once the definitions are loaded, the program will appear to close then re-open.
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • After it's done scanning, click "Scan Results"
  • Make sure all items found have a check next to them, then click "Clean Threats Now".
  • Click Exit.
Reboot your computer. In place of the TrendMicro icon will be a text file called "Antispyware.log", please double-click that log and copy the entire contents and paste them here.

Open notepad, copy and paste next content (bold) in it:

dir C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\Luna /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Save this as look.bat ,choose to save as *all files and save it to your desktop.
Doubleclick on it and notepad will open with some text in it.
Copy and paste this in your next reply.

please post antispyware.log and a fresh HiJakcThis log.

Thanks,

Here goes. I did everything you said, including fixing the 017 name server in HJT. I noticed in this fresh HJT it looks like it came back.
