how to ping to the internet

i just found my system recovery disks 1 through 8. should i just start going through them one by one?

i also have 2 hard drives (my brother installed the 2nd b/c i had major problems with the previous) he did this to save all my data. so when i go into "computer" i have an extra drive for all that info - would that allow me to reformat without losing everything?
