the MBR is that the master boot registry? I"m doing it now, taking a little while, seems to be working. Could it be just a bad cd? Or bad hard drive what are you thinking?

ok its finished refreshing windows, not it says that a backup has been made, some of the critical files were already present backup copies are in the following directory C:/BACKUP. all I can do is hit ok then what do I do? Sorry for the multiple posts was having internet problems.

The only thing I'm sure of right now is that the forum isn't working very well!!!

It's the board...they upgraded the forum software and it hasn't worked very well since...they're working to fix the problem.

Remove the ce and restart...let's see what happens.

ok removed the cd and rebooted we are back to the black screen with white cursor at least its consistent. lol

Yep...it's definitely consistent.

Let's do it again...this time use the format and recover hard drive option.

I"m getting to be a pro at this. he he.. so while we wait what do you do for a living, are you an IT guy or girl. I just like to fix and tinker with computers. I'm not certified yet but working on it. How about you?

Actually, I'm a grounds security specialist and run a Gounds Management Firm here in Montana taking care of shopping malls. I've been tinkering with computers since about 1984 and now build and refurbish computers to give to underpriveliged children in this area...kind of a guru Santa...

I'm a single parent (Mr. Mom) with two daughters...one still at home. I volunteer at G2G just because I like helping people...plus the folks here are the absolute greatest!

I Got it!!! I went online to this website talking about MBR and entered fdisk/mbr using my floppy disk. then reset the boot setting to their default and sure enough there is windows... It's fixed. Thank you so much for your help!!!! You Rock!
