i havent yet attached new drive as boot device did you want me to do that

No...we'll do that on the other machine...go ahead and jumper it as master and install it in the 98 machine...hook it up.

Is it about finished? You might as well let it run...we'll have to redow that step on the 98 machine. It almost sounds like it copied you XP mbr to the drive, though...we'll see in a bit. At least we know we've got a good drive.

now its given me 3 choices

it didnt work it say that it has no drives it says it doesnt have a fat32 system and now i am seeing a:/>

could it be that the jumper settings are wrong?
i set it to master just like on the maxtor web site
should i go back to the original settings and try again?

Type format C: /s...note the spaces...and press enter. Tell me what it does.

This was what I was afraid it did in the last step before..... :tazz: not to worry....

From post #90 on page 6...

Now we need to pull the drive out of the XP machine and jumper it back the way it was when you took it out of the Win98 machine...as master...and put it into the 98 machine hooked up to the last connector on the ribbon cable.

Yep...it loaded the XP MBR as I suspected.......

Restart with the setup disk you made yesterday in the floppy drive...when you get to the options screen press Shift and F5 together. Post back when you get to the A: prompt...
