Excellent. Now save that file because we can use it as a backup.

Then copy the part below into notepad and save it as setpol1.reg
Set filetype to All files.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoFind"=dword:00000000
"NoViewContextMenu"=dword:00000000

Then doubleclick that file and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

Reboot and your Search option and rightclick menu should be back in action.

Let me know.

Doubleclick the file called setpol1.reg and you will be prompted if you want to add the information to the registry.

Confirm that you want to do that and reboot your computer.

Is english your native language or do I need to get a translator?

Which part of this do you not understand?

Then copy the part below into notepad and save it as setpol1.reg
Set filetype to All files.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoFind"=dword:00000000
"NoViewContextMenu"=dword:00000000

Then doubleclick that file and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

i have tried this Metallica but i am not getting a notice when i double click on the setpol1.reg file asking if i want to merge it to the registry.
Maybe I need to go onto registry editor and from there... click file/export to add the setpol1.reg file from there.
Sorry if this is frustrating.

Does the file open when you doubleclick it?
If so, check the file properties.

I suspect you gave it a double extension.

If it is called setpol1.reg.txt you need to remove the .txt part

this is how my reg file looks

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoFind"=dword:00000001
"NoViewContextMenu"=dword:00000001

I saved it as setpol1.reg.....I dont understand why it is not beeing recognised as a reg file I have no txt extension at the end, does it have to be encoded differently- my encoding is ANSI- do I need to change that to to either UNICODE, UNICODE big endian or UTF-8?

When I go into the registry editor and try to export a file it is recognising setpol1 as a reg file so maybe I should try it that way.

OK.

You still have the file C:\explorerpol.txt right ?
Rename that file to explorerpol.reg

Then in the registry delete these two values under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

NoFind
NoViewContextMenu

Just rightclick those words in the righthand pane of the regsitry editor and select delete.

If anything goes wrong you can doubleclick explorerpol.reg to go back to the old situation.

After you deleted them?
Yes. That would be best to make sure if they don't come back.

Good. :whistling:

Two out of three.

Can you open a Command prompt (Start > run > cmd > OK) and type this command:
rstrui.exe

Let me know what happens.

Ah, since you have the Search back, we can do this now.

Do a File search for rstrui.exe
Let me know if it is present and in which folder(s)
