OK, I've talked with one of our experts, and he said that a simple registry fix will solve your problem.

Please copy everything in the quote box below, starting with REGEDIT4, to a clean notepad file.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cmdService]

Save the file to your desktop as "cmdService.reg" (include the quotes).

Double click on cmdService.reg. A message will appear asking if you want to merge the contents of the file with your registry; select Yes.

Reboot your computer

Once you have logged back on, please repeat the instructions in Post 6 and post the new results.

It was making a poping sound as it shut off.

When I try and start it it dosen't even try and start nothing happens

Did you double click on the file to merge it? And are you getting any blue screens? At what point is it restarting (before the Loading Windows screen, after it, when you try to log on, etc.)

I did double click on the file to merge it

Sometimes it would reboot before the log and sometimes after I logged in and I tried to get back to the forum last time it rebooted and it shut down for the last time

Now I can't get it to boot when I push the power button nothing happens

That computer was put together with parts that I ordered from newegg.com.

Can you open it up (don't forget to unplug the power cord) and confirm that everything is as it should be (all the cable are connected and the like) and that nothing smells like smoke (especially the PSU).

I'm not great with hardware, but don't worry, if needed I can get someone that knows it to reply.

Hey Ryan,

The problem did turn out to be the PSU.

The fact that it went right after I followed your directions was just a coincidence :whistling:

Anyway here is the results

Please download and unzip Ren-cmdservice to your desktop.
It will only work correctly if the folder is placed on your desktop and extracted.

Open the ren-cmdservice folder by doubleclicking it and then doubleclick the ren-cmdservice.bat file to run the program.
A text will open when it is finished, Post it please.
Then restart the PC run spybot check for and fix any problems found.
Post back with a fresh hijackthis log and a new regsearch log.

Congratulations, your log is CLEAN :whistling:

We have a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set.

First, let's reset your hidden/system files and folders. System files are hidden for a reason and we don't want to have them openly available and susceptible to accidental deletion.
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading UNSELECT Show hidden files and folders.
* CHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Next, let's clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]System Restore will now be active again.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
You should also have a good firewall. Here are 2 free ones available for personal use:and a good antivirus (these are also free for personal use):It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visitmonthly. And to keep your system clean run these free malware scannersweekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.

We highly recommend installing SP2 (if you haven't already). Click here: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/.
-or-
It's a very large download, so if you're on dial-up, order a free CD here:
http://www.microsoft...default810.mspx

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klein: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Do you have any other questions or concerns? This thread will be left open for a few more days, so feel free to ask.
