Yesterday, I tried downloading AIM from http://dashboard.aim.com/aim by clicking the Download button. I click run, then I run the setup. It downloads and everything is fine. When I returned to my computer later, I woke it up and the internet wouldn't come up. Nothing worked; When I tried to click Network from my start menu, or the Connect To thing, up came a blank window that showed nothing and did nothing. I ended up fixing the problem by doing a system restore. Everything then worked fine afterwards.

So today, I tried the same thing, thinking it would work. I installed it and everything, and the exact same thing happened. Network doesn't pull up and while it was installed, I couldn't get on the internet. I just uninstalled it and restarted my computer, but the only thing that was fixed was my internet. Network doesn't come up still, and the button on my taskbar shows the Network picture with a red X on it that tells me that I am not connected to the internet. When I hover my mouse over the button it reads: Connection status: unknown; Server execution failed. Also, my Trend Micro AntiVirus won't update, it get's to 100% and says it failed. I'm not sure if this is connected but it started acting that way ever since I downloaded AIM first.

I am using Windows Vista, and my internet is a Wireless USP Adapter Netgear WPN111 (The thing on my taskbar for this shows that it is connected. Usually it and the Network button both say connected to the internet).

Do I have to do another System Restore to get my computer back to the way I want it, or is there a way to fix this? Also, How do I get AIM to work right on my computer?

Hello Mudkipboy,

Sorry for the late response. You can use System Restore again. Sounds to me like you have a WMI issue. See if the following instructions help you:

>>Right click "Computer"
>>Click "Manage"
>>Double click "Users and Groups"
>>Click "Groups"
>>Right click "Administrators"
>>Click "Add to group..."
>>Click "Add"
>>Click "Advanced"
>>Click "Find Now"
>>Double click "Local Service"
>>Click "Ok"
>>"NT Authority\Local Service" should show up in the list now
>>Click "Ok"
>>Close Computer Management and reboot.

Let me know if this helps.

Regards,

Ax

Is there a "Local Users and Groups"? If so, that's what the instructions are referring to.

I only have one account on the computer. How do I check to see if this is an administrator account?

Right-click on the START button. If you see "Open All Users" rather than just "Open," the account is in the local Administrators group.

The "Open All Users" does come up when I click the Start button. There is still no Local Users and Groups in Computer Management.

OK, so you must have a Home edition of Vista. See if the following instructions help you at all:
http://windowshelp.m...421033.mspx#EZC

If not, you can check the users through the Control Panel.

There is no Add/Remove Snap-in when I click file. I took a screenshot of what is shown when I click file.

You're still in Computer Management, the instructions say to go to mmc. Please re-read the instructions completely and then try doing what they say.

I can't add the Local Users and Groups Snap-in. However, the website you gave me says at the top that the directions apply to all versions of Windows Vista. I circled it with orange in the screenshot.
