This may be fixed by the hotfix at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946084. You'll have to call MS but it's a free call.

Got the hotfix - and didn't have to call microsft - I gave them my e-mail address and they sent me it, but how do I use it?

Should just be able to double click/run it. I don't have a Vista/2008 box onhand to try it.

It's .MSU file - and microsoft can't open it, I read that it is most likely I have registry errors, and that is why I can't open it.

Based on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934307 you should be able to use wusa.exe to load the fix.

Perhaps extract the package using the directions in that KB and copy the .sys files (drivers) manually into their places and then see if vista boots? Be sure to run the package correctly afterwards if it does.

The example in the article shows something like this. You'll have to replace the relevant paths.

expand -f:* "C:\934307\Windows6.0-KB934307-x86.msu" %TEMP%

No luck with that, it's beginning to look like a clean install is my best option . . .

Let's try a different disk...

Download VistaRecovery.ISO and burn it to a cd as an ISO image. You may need a burning tool like ISO Recorder to do this...be sure to get the version for the operating system you'll be creating the disk on.

Hi Wannabe1

I hope you don't mind.
I came across this while searching for help with a vista non-boot problem and recovery disks are not working.

I download both the files (above), but the ISO recorder gives me an error. I tried my nero program to copy the ISO image to a CD, but I get an error message;
block size not corresponding to the image length.
Nero asks if I want to change this or ignore. I tried to change it but it does not help, I still get the same message. So I chose ignore. Afraid the disk still don't work.

Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
