I had an emachine previously but it broke and the tech that built my new machine norton ghosted windows from that

the emachine didn't have a windows disc either though it had a built in restore in a partition

i dont think this machine does though.

Ahh, we are in a pickle here aren't we.

Lets see if re-registering jscript makes any difference.

Go to Start, then Run and copy and paste in: regsvr32 jscript.dll /s then hit enter.

It wont appear to do anything, but that is normal. Now open a command window again, by going to Start, then Run and typing in cmd then hitting enter.

Now in the command window, type in java -fullversion and hit enter.

Lets see whether java is now recognised.

OK, let me look into this some more and see if I can figure it out.

Don't worry about your windows version, it is valid, but if you could phone the tech and ask him if he created a backup of the system installation files it might be helpful.

You cannot download another version of windows, it would require a new license. The tech who built the computer should be able to build you a restore disk, and windows has it's own built in system restore too.

By the way, when you go to Start, Settings then Control Panel, do you have the Java Icon (coffee cup)?

Could you run the Windows Online Kernel Installation as outlined in post 82, then try to install the Offline package again.

Also when done, run this batch file for me:

Please copy the entire contents of the codebox below into Notepad:
  • Open Notepad
  • Copy the contents of the codebox below using CTRL C

@echo off
If exist Report.txt del Report.txt
dir "C:\Program Files\Java" /s >Report.txt
Start Report.txt
  • Now return to Notepad and use CTRL V to paste the script
  • Verify that you have pasted the complete script
  • Save the Notepad file to your Desktop as JavaLook.bat using Save as Type: All files
  • Locate JavaLook.bat on your desktop
  • Double click to run.
Post me the contents of the log it produces.
