Hello I have a Dell XPS M1730 with windows vista home premium and have recently had trouble booting the computer, I get an error that states " autochk program not found skipping autocheck. It then goes to a continuous loop of trying to boot up and giving me the same error. I can't boot in safe mode or last good configuration, but i can boot Media Direct which I believe is in a separate partition. I try a startup repair but it looks for problems then states "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically. I hope you guys can help me, this website hasn't let me down as of yet.

Step 1 in this manual gives the warning: WARNING: Do not boot the computer and run the Vista installation DVD from boot. A upgrade install will not work this way. I can't run the OS so can i run the installation dvd from boot?

I downloaded the seatools created the iso disk and ran it on the xps. I got and error when it tried to copy to the C: drive, and then three lines of code showed up stating:
Invalid Opcode at 7147 1660 3082 604C 62E9 607C 0002 0000 0010 6D1D A0A0 6D01 0000

Invalid Opcode at DFA6 8B00 0246 700F 3E00 010A F000 700

I don't know if that was what you needed but thats what the computer gave me.

Did you boot from Seatools CD?
What did you actually try to copy to C drive?

Yes I booted from the Seatools CD I made. I personally didn't try to copy anything the cd just ran when I booted the computer.

So you're saying, the test started to run, and at some point, it displayed Invalid Opcode error?

Invalid Opcode error happens, when the processor is not able execute certain command.
Since the hard drive is not participating at this moment, the two most likely reasons are:
- file problem (in your case, bad CD, bad download, bad burn, etc.)
- RAM problem

I've run it a couple more times and I don't get the Invalid Opcode error any more but I still get an error.

First screen: shows copyright info and warranty info along with the options to InitDiskPress F8 to trace or F5 to skip CONFIG.SYS/AUTOEXEC.BAT

Second Screen: Finding RAM... on top of screen followed by a table that says
------------------------------------------------------------
TURBODSK 2.1 - Drive C: | Sector size : 512 |
-------------------------------| Root entries: 256 |
Size: 3072 kbytes | Sectors/Cluster: 2 |
Memory: Ectended XMS | 3059 clusters (FAT12) |

Third Screen: Copying Files to RAM Drive C: ...

Fourth Screen: Unzipping Files in Ram Drive...
CureMouse v2.1 beta4 [FreeDOS]
Error: device not found

I suspect, you may have RAM problem.
If you have more than one RAM stick, try to start the computer with one stick at a time.
