Your hard drive may be dead, then.
I'd suggest, you hook it up as a slave in another computer, or you use HD enclosure, to see, if the drive can be read at all.

What is a slave on another computer? Also what i find strange is that i run Media Direct and it finds my music and videos on the hard drive.
