Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected <==

Is it plugged in? Have you tried a new cable?

Does it no longer detect the Wireless adapter?

Not plugged in right now, but I could be. Wireless adapter [Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection] shows in Device Manager along with Broadcom NetLink ™ Fast Ethernet (which I assume is my LAN port adapter on my computer); both say they are working properly when right-clicked and Properties are displayed (under the General tab, which shows by default when you select Properties from right-clicking the device in the Device Manager listing).

No internet access whatsoever; you have what is returned from a command prompt (run as Administrator). Did another OTL scan (Full scan) and this is what it says:

Try plugging in the cable. It's too hard to get both wireless working and resolve a connection issue.

Whew! You were starting to worry me.

What make and model laptop are we talking about? You might have told me but I'm too lazy to go back through the whole thread to look.

Get SIW
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/siw.html

and run it. It should tell us exactly what model of wireless you have. Look under Hardware, Network Adapters. Click on the first one and then right click and select Copy to Clipboard and move to a reply and paste it in.

Ok. I also see I have FOUR copies of my Broadcom NetLink ™ Fast Ethernet adapters on the listing. Can I delete all of the ones showing "Disconnected" and leave the active one that I am using which seems to work fine with all my internet access apps?

Probably but let's wait until we have the wireless working.

Get the wireless software from:

http://consumersuppo...s_show_150.html

Download and Install.

After you reboot does it show that it detects any wireless networks? Is your wireless router using encryption?

You have to disconnect the Ethernet cable.

Then open a Command Prompt and do

ipconfig /all

see what you got for an ip address.

nslookup att.com

What do you get now?

Nothing on ipconfig /all; same as before, only my LAN connection displayed. Pull the cable, internet access is gone! tried the nslookup att.com too....gave an address, but server is not available. So now what for this darn wireless adapter connection? what can I send to you to help us figure out why it won't work even though it's showing enabled and that the network adapter is functioning properly...

This is what ipconfig /all says on my Vista for the wireless connection:

IF you go into Control Panel, Network Connections does your wireless show up there? Does it have green vertical bars?

Right click on it and select Diagnose. Does it say everything is OK? Close the box.

Right click and select Properties. Configure. Continue. Advanced. Is there a Radio On/Off in the list. High light it. Is the radio ON? OK

Right click and select Connect/Disconnect. Does it say it is connected?

Rightclick on the network name on the left. Select Properties. Under Security No Authentification and none
Under Connection:

Correct SSID for your router?
Access Point?
All Users?

IF you go into Control Panel, Network Connections does your wireless show up there? Yes

Does it have green vertical bars? Yes

Right click on it and select Diagnose. Does it say everything is OK? No. It returns,

"This computer cannot connect to wireless networks" then under this general statement,

"The wireless adapter on this computer is not working properly" followed by three choices. The one choice has a green arrow, which I assume means it is the first choice suggested as the most likely reason:

"The network adapter 'Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection' is experiencing driver or hardware related issues" with "Click here for information." in small print under it.

There are two other suggested reasons/actions:

1. "Reset the wireless adapter on this computer" with "This will disable and then re-enable the network adapter." in small print under it, and

2. "Make sure your Internet Protocol Bindings are correct" with "Ensure that 'Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' and 'Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6)' are selected in the configuration for the network adapter 'Wireless Network Connection'" and under that, "Click here to open the adapter's configuration settings."

Right click and select Properties. Configure. Continue. Advanced. Is there a Radio On/Off in the list? No. There is a list of properties available for my adapter, with instructions to "Click on the property you want to change on the left, and then select its value on the right":

Ad Hoc Channel 802.11 b/g (with value "11" given)
Ad Hoc Power Management (with value "Disabled" given)
Ad Hoc QoS Mode (with value "WMM Disabled" given)
Mixed Mode Protection (with value "CTS-to-self Enabled" given)
Roaming Aggressiveness (with value "3. Medium" given)
Throughput Enhancement (with value "Disabled" given)
Transmit Power (with value "5. Highest" given)
Wireless Mode (with value "6. 802.11a/b/g" given)

Right click and select Connect/Disconnect. Does it say it is connected? No. The only connection listed is my backup Dialup connection that is set up for my modem and local dialup ISP.

Rightclick on the network name on the left. Select Properties. Under Security No Authentification and none
Under Connection:
There is no network name given for the Wireless Connection. When you click on the status after right-clicking on it, it shows lots of packets received (and being received), but not one sent. The IPv4 and IPv6 are both shown as "Not Connected", and the Media State is shown as "Enabled". There is a blank beside the SSID and "0 bps" beside the Speed, plus another blank beside Signal Quality, although the graphic shows all 5 signal strength bars green and the router is less than three feet away.

Not sure what you wanted for the remaining two questions:

Access Point?
All Users?

Sorry I had to sleep again, and will await you getting up there on the west coast....

With wireless, you normally start off with a screen that shows you the networks in the area then you choose one and tell it CONNECT. If the network is encrypted then you have the opportunity to put in the type of encryption and the phrase or password that matches what is on the router. Do you ever see a list of networks?

Does your laptop have a button or method for turning the wireless on or off?

Let's try the newest version of the driver (even tho they tell you not to):

First uninstall the old driver:

1. Open the Device Manager.
Windows Vista: Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System
2. Click the + Network adapters to expand the section.
3. Right-click the Intel Wi-Fi adapter and select Properties.
4. Click Driver tab.
5. Click Uninstall.
6. Check Delete the driver software for this device and click OK.

Don't reboot yet.

Download the latest version from Intel:

http://downloadcente...s...53&lang=eng

Click on the Download to the right of: ICS_Dv32.exe

Save it to your desktop.

Right click and Run As Administrator.

Reboot.

When it comes back up do you see the wireless icon in the systray (down near the clock?)

If you click on it it should show you what networks are available.

Does it?

IF So disconnect the Ethernet cable and click on your network and CONNECT. If not Reset your router to factory specs.

Done all you asked; even after the uninstalling the existing latest version Lenovo Wireless Adapter driver and installing the latest from the link you provided, there is the same LAN connection only. When you click on Connect to a Network, all you see available is the Dialup Connection I have set up.

I have my router's setup disc and will try resetting it with that.

Not much success with trying to reset my router; it's a D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N Router, and besides the installation disk, there isn't much documentation with it. I will try D-Link support; it is less than 90 days old and I have a extended warranty on it, if it is what is causing the problem. However, I think it's something to do with my OS setup of the Wireless Network Adapter. Maybe you can figure it out with me.

Thanks,

Ray

To reset the router, locate the reset button (hole) on the rear panel of the unit. With the router powered on, use a paperclip to hold the button down for 10 seconds. Release the button and the router will go through its reboot process. Wait about 30 seconds to access the router.

Go to http://consumersuppo...ds/drivers.html

Enter your serial number then see if you get a different driver. Also look and see if there is a Intel chipset driver for you pc. Install it first then the wireless driver and software they want to give you.
