Not working still. When you diagnose and repair, gives the three suggestions I have given in a post above, still.

It is strange that when you click on Status for the connection, it shows it actively RECEIVING packets; however, the Sent number remains at 0 for as long as the connection is up, which is as long as my computer has been turned on since the last complete shutdown. It is receiving information; it is showing that the device is working properly in Device Manager listing, it shows a full five bars of signal strength on the Network Connections window for Managing Network Connections, but on the Status window, there is a blank next to Signal Quality, but a full five bars on the graphic showing packets Sent and Received at the bottom of the window.

How can I troubleshoot the Network Adapter to see if it has lost its transmitting power, but still is receiving data? Is it possible I truly have a Network Adapter hardware device inside my laptop that has malfunctioned and must be replaced? The General under Properties in the Device Manager gives the following device Location information:

PCI Slot 33 (PCI bus 2, device 0, function 0)

If I must, can I open up my laptop case and try to replace this PCI adapter and see if that clears up my problem? Should I call or see if I can get any support on my out of warranty unit for how to do this?

I will be out of pocket all day today till late tonight with Army Reserve duty, and most of the weekend in the day too, so don't look for me to reply or work on this much until around 4 or 5 PM your time if not later, but I will be continuing to try and work this out. I may be forced to buy a USB or PCMIA Network Adapter and see it that might work; in fact I have a couple of those laying around or in use with my other computers here.

I've been reading your manual.
http://consumerdl.le.....27s Guide.pdf
Can't believe how their wireless on/off switch works:

Wireless device switch
This switch turns on or turns off Wireless LAN and Bluetooth devices
simultaneously. To enable wireless/bluetooth, slide the latch to the right and
press Fn + F5.

Some people claim that Fn + F2 toggles the wireless on and off.

Have you tried that?

Apparently you do have a wireless lan card in your PC:

Wireless LAN Card compartment
The wireless network card are secured in a compartment.
Important:
Do not disassemble or replace the Wireless LAN card by yourself! If you do
need to, ask a Lenovo authorized service center or dealer to disassemble or
replace it.

This is what it looks like:

http://www.laptoprep...category=boards

So regardless of what Lenovo says it doesn't look like it would be hard to replace if you can find another one.
Probably cheaper to get a USB or Smart Card Wireless adapter tho. I hit an infected site while searching for your card so be careful.

Wireless Device Indicator
Amber: Bluetooth is enabled.
Blue*: Wireless LAN is enabled and connected.
Purple: Bluetooth and Wireless LAN are both enabled.
* Depending on the wireless LAN card, these actions may differ

Also read through the instructions here:

Try using both the Intel and the Windows programs to manage your wireless. I've usually had better luck with the Windows program.

Done all I could, Ron. Don't have the Intel Network Management program installed on my computer. I don't think Lenovo loaded it in the factory setup. Windows obviously isn't going to work with the adapter if it works at all. I may be forced to try another USB adapter or a PCMIA card; I have a Type II PCMIA card by Netgear, but it apparently isn't the right type of PCMIA card for my Lenovo; the connector on the card is much wider and seems to have more pin holes than the male connector inside my laptop's card slot.

You should be able to get the Intel software:

Worth a shot.

Their update utility might also be worthwhile.

Run SIW and look under Hardware, System Slots. It may tell you what the card slot is.

Ok Ron. Here's the bad news.....not only will my internal wireless adapter not work, whatever is wrong with my computer's OS or whatever, it will NOT allow me to enable another wireless adapter connection! I purchased a D-Link DWA-125 USB Wireless N 150MB/s adapter and installed it correctly, so that the adapter was showing in Network Connections as my Wireless Connection 2, but when I tried to Enable it, it would ask to continue, as usual, and then do nothing when I allowed the computer system to go ahead and try to Enable the new Wireless Connection 2 which was showing Disabled. I am very disappointed in MS Vista and what has happened to my computer. I can't believe I may be infected with some kind of malware or virus, with all the work we have done, but why can we not get anything but my LAN wired connection to be able to access the internet?

How about we try uninstalling AVG and installing Avast again. The AVG forum has complaints about it messing up wireless.

done all that....still no wireless networks showing...and cannot enable another wireless connection.....

Again, packets for my internal wireless connection come in, but none go out. When you disable this wireless connection and try to install/enable a USB wireless adapter, the OS will not allow you to enable it. It shows the new wireless connection, but it's disabled. When you try to Enable it using a right-click and Enable, it asks the worn out Vista question if you want to continue or not, and when you click on Continue, nothing happens....the icon remains showing Disabled for the new Wireless Connection 2. What is wrong with my OS? Has my Winsock been totally blown away? Why can I access through my LAN adapter with no problems, but cannot use ANY wireless connection, even the internal Wireless Adapter OR a new USB adapter?

Don't like to do it but we can turn off UAC and see if that makes life easier:

Thought if you didn't have to click on Continue it might finish what you started. Worth a shot anyway.

Didn't help, Ron. Are you stumped on why I have no wireless capability to do more then receive on my internal adapter, and that absolutely no other wireless connections of any kind show up in Windows under the Network Connections when you try to connect to a network? Is my OS irreparably corrupted? I have a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OS installation disk coming down this weekend; God knows I hate Vista so badly that even if we were to fix my computer with it on it, I'd still say goodbye to it as soon as possible. I will have to reinstall MS Office 2007 Professional and my other apps, perhaps, but to have wireless capability, 64-bit performance, and no Vista OS to have more problems with will be worth that hassle.

Please see if there is anything else useful we can try; I really hate having to be hardwired to my router to use the internet with my best (i.e., fastest, with the best apps and most RAM, etc. on it) computer!

I have no idea why it doesn't want to work and I'm going off island for a week tomorrow so we're running out of time.

You might try posting in the Vista forum.
http://www.geekstogo...dows-7-f79.html

Give them a link back to this thread. Maybe one of the helpers who specialize in Vista will have an idea we haven't tried.

Send me a link via a PM and I will follow it when I get back on-line.
