how come the other laptops that my family uses doesn't have this problem?
Could be many reasons. There are several different types of batteries and could also be how they have the Power Settings adjusted for their particular laptop. Not all computers are the same for several reasons such as how and for how long they are used, programs installed, hardware specifications.
I've know folks who have purchased identical laptops, yet they are different in every way, except for make and model of course.
And yes, you can get another battery. Provide the model# of the battery and I can find one online for you if you like. Or you can purchase one from your local Tech. Shop.
I did provide some links above that will explain Battery Maintenance and Power Settings that will help you to understand. Please take the time to browse through those links.
As I stated before, the normal life of a laptop battery can be 2-3 years depending on how well it is maintained. Even more if maintained properly. Mine is 2+ years as well, and I abuse it like you do. Though due to the cost of a new battery for my laptop, I'm learning to be more conscientious to how I use it.

Well, You know, I'm not that type of tech person, I know how to fix viruses and other minor and some major problems, but when it comes to mechanics, I don't know anything (Not much)... For Example: Overcharging Battery.
Btw, So what do you mean by Power settings?

This is your battery model number: > 498482-001
Go here > http://www.google.com/ copy and paste that number into the google search engine. It will give you many sites where you can price/purchase a new battery if you choose to get one online. I have a shortcut to google on my desktop for easy access because I google some much. Just drag the favicon from your search engine to the desktop and drop it there for your access. (that of course is if you don't already know how to google)
As for Power Options/Settings/Management, take time to read this > http://www.microsoft...r.mspx?mfr=true
It will teach you what Hibernation...Sleep...Standby options are used for on your computer.

Nobody is till they actually put forth the effort to learn about all this. I wasn't a tech. type person either, still don't consider myself as such. I just know how to google the right questions to get the right response. If you want to learn about overcharging, just type What does it mean to overcharge your laptop battery? into the google search engine, and you get several links pertaining to that question such as this link here > http://mobileoffice....verchargelb.htm
If you have more questions, please ask! The more you ask and learn, the more I learn as well!

I, too, can relate to your quote above. A year ago I had no idea what copy and paste was. Now, I'm in training. All because someone took the time to answer my questions. And there are no such things as stupid questions! So ask away!

Hi alenz, have same problem, as soon as I plug in battery starts chaging for a few seconds then stops, but I aways have 55% to 65% charged.
Welcome to Geeks to Go!

Your issue could be totally different than Extreme930's. Bad AC Adapter ports, bad AC Adapter, etc. can cause this. Just depends on the symptoms you're getting.
Start a new thread and give as much information as possible, such as; does it show as being plugged in an charging on your battery icon in your notification area? And any other information that you feel is necessary to your issue. This way, if your issue is different we can distinguish between to two. I'd be happy to help you figure it out.

Lol, you didn't now what copy and paste was a year ago??? Hmm... Interesting..

Yes, unfortunately you will have to buy a battery if yours is not holding a charge. The only way that you can get a battery for free is if your battery is still under warranty and there is a recall on that battery by the manufacturer. Which I don't think it is due to the age.Do I have to buy a battery or can I get a spare for free?
Preview the information that I have given to you above in this post. Everything you need to know about how to get a new battery is there. If I do it for you....you will never learn how to be a techy person.
If you have any trouble, please let me know. I will help guide you further.

I went ahead and googled the battery model number for you. Go ahead and browse through these links HERE to find the one that best fits your needs financially. They are all safe sites to enter. But please do install the WOT program I provided above, and please read the links I also provided to educate yourself with the Power Options on your laptop.
Have a safe and relaxing vacation!
