Today I tried twice to download Hirens.bootCD15.2.zip but in the two attemps the files appeared corrupted or incomplete, even when I followed the recommendation in the FAQ´s section to desactivate antivirus and retry.
I tried to do these downloads from another computer that uses Windows XP

Now regarding my hard disk manufacturer it is Western Digital according to a chat with the Gateway guys. In the page of tacktech there are many options to download. I guess the last one is the good one because is the latest and is for windows

No, you want the first one which is a .zip file. When upzipped, it will be a .iso file you use to create a bootable CD from, the same as you did for memory test.

Data Lifeguard v11.2 for drives > 137GB (CD) (December 2006)

Then you boot the CD to run the tests.

OK when I went to the link Data Lifeguard v11.2 for drives > 137GB (CD) (December 2006)takes me to the site of Western digital in the link http://support.wdc.c...8&sid=3&lang=en I found a file WinDlg_124.zip it is a windows based Data LifeGuard diagnostic.
Unzipped, ran and the results in extended mode was good for hard disk.

Even though you have Norton, go to the Virus, Spyware, Malware Removal forum, read the first post and follow instructions.

Come back here once you get a clean bill of health if you still have problems.

I will. Going to start with the guide to remove virus, spyware and malware. Now, thinking on the kind of laptop I have and the intention from Windows to always make a memory diagnostic ¿Is there anywhere I can learn how to change the memory parts? It´s a Gateway NV57

Trun the laptop over. On the bottom will be two (or more) access panels. SOmetimes the one the memory is under is marked with a M. If not, unscrew each one and see what's there. The memory modules are 2 1/2" by 1/2" (roughly) and are easy to remove. There are two tabs, one on each side of the module. Spread them and the module will pop up a little so you can then slide it out. Reverse the process to replace them.

Video here:

It's for a NV55 but the procedure is the same.
