Hi. :)

sorry to be a pain mate

Not a problem.

not been on my computer since it was sorted but now every website gives me error messages

Fair play, lets check a few things as follows shall we...

Scan with AdwCleaner:

Please download adwcleaner from here and save to your desktop.

Alternate downloads are here or here.

  • Right-click on adwcleaner.exe and select Run as Administrator to launch the application.
  • Now click on the Search tab.
  • Please post the contents of the log-file created in your next post.
Note: The log can also be located at C: >> AdwCleaner[XX].txt >> XX <-- denotes the number of times the application has been ran, so in this case may be something like R1.

Scan with MTB:

Please download MiniToolBox and save your desktop.

  • Right-click on MiniToolBox.exe and select Run as Administrator to start the program.
  • Select all available options.
  • Then click on Go and post the result (Result.txt) in your next reply.

Hi. :)

Looks like you may have two copy's of AdwCleaner on the desktop, so delete one and ensure you do use AdwCleaner(2).exe. Or merely delete both and re-download again for example and this way you will be using the most up-to date version etc.

Noticed you have recently reinstalled Java...There has been a recent severe exploitation of this software, further information can be read here. The aforementioned article will also explain on how to disable the plugins, though my friendly advice would be to uninstall if you do not use anything Java related.

Re-scan with AdwCleaner:

  • Right-click on adwcleaner.exe and select Run as Administrator to launch the application.
  • Now click on the Delete tab >> reboot your machine if not prompted to do so.
  • Please post the contents of the log-file created in your next post.
Note: The log can also be located at C: >> AdwCleaner[XX].txt >> XX <-- denotes the number of times the application has been ran, so in this case should be something like S1.

Scan with JRT:

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

Note: Temp shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts, how to do so can be read here.

  • Right-click on JRT.exe and select Run as Administrator to launch the application.
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt in your next reply.
Next:

Reboot your machine then post the two requested logs and let myself know if still the same issuie remaining.

Fair enough.

when I googled the error I got it said it might be becuase I have altfarm.mediaplex.com blocked in my hosts file?

It is indeed blocked by the MVPS Host File for a very good reason as stated here. So I can only surmise what ever site you attempted to visit uses the dubious services of mediaplex.

Anyway as it stands there appears to be nothing wrong with your machine from a security point of view. If you wish to reset the Host File back to default that is your decision though I strongly advise against doing so.

Hi. :)

its just the msn default page on IE and betfair on firefox

Interesting, for me that is not for you obviously...

Checked both out as in:-

http://uk.msn.com/ - Appears to work fine with IE & using the MVPS Host File.

http://www.betfair.com/ - Did notice the below because I do not use Java:-

In order to use the site effectively, you are required to enable javascript in your browser

Though overall appears to be working fine for myself with with FF & using the MVPS Host File.

The only things I can think of may be causing the disruption is possibly avast! Internet Security after a recent update possibly(though no mention of that in the avast forum itself). So try temp disabling the WebShield/all if the need etc and then check the sites again or with-out the Sandbox if using that feature.

McAfee SiteAdvisor, though a slim one that.

Are you using NoScript(I advised about that in my online safey advice a good while back here), though double checked that and did not notice any problems but entirely feasible you may have.

As above with regard to Script Defender...double checked that also and did not notice any problems but entirely feasible you may have.

May be something your ISP has recently implemented, though cannot think as to why as nothing particulary nefarious on either site.

I can still access the pages but full of error messages, do I contact betfair and ask them?

is it basically just adverts?

Contacting would probably only lead to them advising disabling/removing a lot of safety protocols and most likely adverts anyway.

Hi. :)

I doubt it as had no problems navigating the pages/sites myself and I do not have Java installed.

Are you using a custom DNS(domain name server) now ? Though does not appear to be the case.

Can you confirm is your ISP TalkTalk or not ?

Have you changed any settings with what appears to be a NetGear router you are using apart from the advised reset I mentioned prior some time ago now ?

Hi. :)

Fair play.

yes mate its AOL/Talk talk

OK thank you for the clarification. Now I recall awhile back you mentioned a problem with your ISP and let myself know using your mobile to post etc. So I am wondering if your ISP has inadvertently activated something called HomeSafe Security.

Now unfortunately I will be unable to check this for you, you will have too via signing into your account on the homepage for your ISP.

So sign into your ISP account and check if the aforementioned feature is activated, if it is disable it and check if the same problems. If it is not activated proceed to the below....

I can live with it as long as its nothing malicious

if for ever any reason in the past how would I reset the hosts

Not malicious no, though at this juncture I see no harm checking if resetting to default does make any difference as follows...

Download the attached reset-all.bat(see below) to your desktop.

Now right-click on reset-all.bat and select Run as Administrator to run the batch file. It will self-delete when completed.

Note: You will temporally loose your internet connection and your machine should automatically reboot. If it does not reboot your machine manually.

When completed the above let myself know if the same problems please.
