The computer itself was made by my dads friend i was going to order it online but they didn't ship to the EU so i had him buy the parts and make it here i recently emailed him telling him about the windows not being genuine and said he'd get me a copy of windows hopefully at the weekend so is that what I'm needing? and for how i attempted to restore it at the boot menu i repeatedly tapped f8 to bring up the menu and from there i pressed start up repair that obviously didn't help but ever since then is when i've been getting the message.

OK the problem is if your friend is not getting the Genuine Microsoft OS installation disk that matches what you have along with a legal reg number you will not be legal.
If he installed a OEM version there should be a sticker on the system showing the original OS and serial number.

Is there a sticker on the system some where to show the original OS and serial number?
If not then I would question the installation as being legal or not. Purchasing a legal installation disk would give you the media and make everything most likely work correctly.
