Hello folks,

This is a tricky one for sure and most of what can be done has been already  :(

Has all previously installed HP printer software been uninstalled again since the last failed installation, if not please do so, shut down the computer and remove the USB connection, restart the computer and confirm that there is no mention anywhere of the HP printer or it`s software, run the HP Printer Install Wizard from here do not connect the USB cable until you are prompted to, this could be an onscreen message such as "please attach USB cable" or "no printer detected" the idea behind this approach is to prevent a possible stray driver etc from being detected and interfering with the installation.

Hi Phil,

You helped me with this type of problem last winter.  I could not get the HP printer driver to install.

I could print but not scan.

You sent me this link https://www.youtube....h?v=HbWpgww5I-M  and I was finally able to scan.

It is a trick process but it works.

Here is the link from last winter.  http://www.geekstogo...nstall-failure/

I was able to reinstall the printer minus all it's other features, scan, copy, etc..  It will print, but that is all it will do.

Also, no icons and nothing listed in the program file.  I have to go to devices and printers to get to the printer.

Chris

The program states that the full software version is not installed.  It tries to install, but fails.  I restarted and tried to reinstall three different times, and each time it failed to install.

Try a Clean Boot and then see if the software will install;

  1. Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.
  2. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press Enter to start the System Configuration utility.
Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, you should type the password or provide confirmation.

  3. On the General tab, click the Selective startup option, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)

  4. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.

Note This step lets Microsoft services continue to run. These services include Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, Error Reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you may permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use the System Restore utility together with existing restore points.
  5. Click OK, and then click Restart.

I tried it several times with no luck.  Also, Ask.com has now hijacked my browser.  No matter what I do, Manage Add-ons, Internet Options, it keeps coming back.
