ie11 wont install in windows 7 (Resolved)

Hi Jim,

 

That was some size log (15 - 20 minutes to download  :( ) and unfortunately it shows that Windows has a massive amount of errors, so bad in fact that it may take a fresh install to put right, before that is suggested though can I ask what type of media was used to install the present Windows 7 OS as in a full retail or OEM disk, a downloaded ISO or a burned copy that you created yourself.

 

Things that could be tried first include a Repair Install details here or the less favourable uninstalling SP1 and then reinstalling it, the latter is less favourable because it may not reinstall.

Can I do a repair install with an OEM?

Until Phill comes on line, which type of OEM disk do you mean, is it one you created when you first got the computer, is it one you got with the computer or is it an official Microsoft OEM disk you bought from Microsoft or a retailer?

 

From the Windows 7 repair install link provided by Phill I quote :-

 

"You cannot use a OEM Windows 7 "Factory" Restore/Recovery type of installation disc that came with or created from a store bought computer to do a repair install with. These can only be used do a clean install instead."

 

If it is a normal OEM Windows installer disk with the full official Microsoft Windows 7 label, which is the type of disk system builders buy and use, it might do a repair. Otherwise the other type of disk will only do a full reinstall.

 

Edit to add,

If you can take and post a picture of the label of the disk, we will know for sure then.

Hi Phil.

 

It wouldn't let me do a repair install with the disk, saying that the version on my PC was newer than the OEM  (Which is an original btw)

I tried to uninstall SP1 and reinstall but had problems as I expected :no:

So I decided to do a clean reinstall user the advanced option.

 

All the updates are now current and working fine including ie11. :yeah:

 

Thanks for you help & we can call this resolved.
