I have an Acer Aspire 5750 laptop that I bought used. It came with no software. I created (thought I did) system back up on several disks (dvd) just in case. A friend offerred to speed up my computer by removing any unnecessary files. Well he wiped out the hard drive. When I turn the laptop on, I get the message " operating system not found". I've tried using the backup disks but it doesen't recognize them. Disk will spin for about 10 seconds and then stop. Tried booting with disk already in the drive, but same result. I now have a desktop with win 8.1, which unfortunately didnt come with any software either. HP Pavillion. Can I somehow use the HP to restore my laptop?, or should I just throw it away. Thanx,

I suspect your HDD died. Happened to me on my old Win98.
Fixed by replacing HDD and reloading OS from mfr supplied disc.
But you have no mfr supplied OS discs.
Consider: Is the Lap worth the expense of replacing both HDD and OS ?
And also: Can you bear the pain if replacing same doesn't fix it ?

wipe means that your friend format the hard disk?
If so then the OS also formatted? if so then you have to install the OS again!
May be you have OEM windows then you download iso OS and installed on your pc!
What about your os? Whether it is OEM?

What OS was on the Acer? If 8 or 8.1 then follow these directions to get a ISO to install with and then do a Clean Install:
Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create
Clean Install with Windows 8 Upgrade
If the Acer is UEFI/GPT and not BIOS/MBR then see here:
UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows
