Next time it goes up,

Get Process Explorer

http://technet.micro...s/bb896653.aspx
Save it to your desktop then run it (Vista or Win7 - right click and Run As Administrator).

View, Select Column, check Verified Signer, OK
Options, Verify Image Signatures

Click twice on the CPU column header to sort things by CPU usage with the big hitters at the top.

Wait a minute then:

File, Save As, Save. Open the file Procexp.txt on your desktop and copy and paste the text to a reply.

It goes up to 100% when I open any program. I have tried 4 times to download Process Explorer. What comes is a funny looking zip file that I can't unzip. See attached screenshot.

I've tried to download process explorer several times.

Even downloaded it on my desktop, and it works fine there. Moved it to this laptop on a flash drive, but it won't work. It doesn't seem to want to come onto this computer as a zip file.

Well it only took me 2 days to figure out that I should unzip the folder on my desktop and then copy the unzipped files to the laptop. So I did that and the screenshot shows the result. Still can't fun process explorer.

When you right click on the folder with a zipper, choose extract all. Another folder should get created on the desktop called Process Explorer. Double click that folder to open, inside that folder should be 3 files:

1 Elua. (Txt File)
2 procexp with a question mark on it.(Txt File)
3 procexp<---Right click on this on and "run as Administrator" (The actual Application that should run for you)

See how that works for you.

Thanks
Joe :)

Yeah, I know that. The first problem was that the right click didn't give me an unzip option. The second problem is that when I unzipped it on my desktop and copied it to the laptop, I got that error message about being in a directory that is writable.

Do you see the problem? I was able to get Process Explorer onto the laptop Desktop. But when I run as administrator, I get the error message, "Unable to extract 64 bit image. Run Process Explorer from a writable directory." The directory is Desktop, and it's writable. So why won't Process Explorer run?

Why are we doing this ? Can't you download it using the Laptop directly.

We're doing this because, as I posted in #47, the program doesn't download correctly to the laptop. See the image, attached here. Look in the upper left corner at the two process explorer icons. Neither one came down as a proper zip file, as is evidenced by the funny looking icon (NOT a zip icon). And when I try to run it, I get the error message pictured, "Application not found."

I have never used it, but perhaps Process Hacker will show us what's using the cpu .

Lets try it, no zip file downloads to desktop and run it.

Called into work, lets also do this and I'll have a look a bit later.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.
