The TEAC has had various problems over the years but it seems to be the receiver itself, rather than the speakers.

While out and about today, I saw a second hand Yamaha for 175 bucks. No speakers. Was wondering if the speakers would work alright.

It's hard to compare the specs when I have no real clue. TEAC and Yamaha

I'll only be using the subwoofer and front speakers, if that makes a difference. Just wanted to make sure it'd work without starting a dang fire. Apologies for my ignorance in this matter.

Please help~

The TEAC says it uses 4 to 8 ohm speakers.  The Yamaha says:

Under its default settings, the unit is configured for 8-ohm speakers. When connecting 6-ohm speakers, set the speaker impedance to “6 MIN”. In this case, you can also use 4-ohm speakers as the front speakers.

This is Page 15 in the manual at:

http://download.yama...&asset_id=53683

They explain how to set the impedance to 6 ohms right after the above statement.

So it would appear that it should work tho it would be nice to know what speakers you have.  The speakers probably say on them what impedance they have.  The Yamaha doesn't have the power that the TEAC has.  100 Watts vs 300 Watts but I doubt that you need that much power anyway.

Nothing about that written on the speakers, sadly. But yeah, from what I can gather, the speakers should work fine but not the subwoofer. Which is a shame.

Thanks all the same.

What impedance is the woofer?  You can use an Audio Transformer for Impedance Matching purposes.

Not sure. TEAC don't exactly make anything clear!

Still, I heard this elsewhere:

"the Subwoofer is passive (uses power from the amplifier), and the output of the Yamaha is a line level output, so you will not be able to use the Sub. You would need an 'active' Subwoofer (one that has its own internal amplifier) to use on the Yamaha."

So I think I'm out of luck in that regard.

Sounds like it unless you want to buy some sort of adapter.

Yup, sadly!

And so the search continues.
