This is a fairly new HP desktop all-in-one .  Ir will not boot to the OS so I tried a startup repair unsuccessfully.  I tried to boot in safe as well...same results..I went into bios and all seems correct.

 

I am only getting: "Bad_system_config_info" when I try to boot.  I have tried a system reset several times and it won't complete.  I also tried a repair with the Windows cd.  Any suggestions?  Bad HD? Motherboard??

If it boots with the Win DVD/USB then I doubt there is anything wrong with your motherboard.  The error indicates the registry is messed up very badly so the hard drive is probably at fault.

 

I'd try Hiren's boot program.  It contains a bunch of free tools that can come in handy.

Save it.

 

You can use an iso burner to burn it to a DVD

but it works best with a USB

Once you get it to boot select HDTune v2.55

Make sure it has your All-in-one's hd selected in the upper left corner then hit Start.  A good drive will look like this:

 

 

If the graph shows a sudden drop that's a sign that the drive is failing.  You can also click on Error Scan and hit Start and it will do a slower more detailed scan.

 

The Health tab seems to be broken at this time but you should be able to get the SMART info with

Speccy v1.32.740 which is also included.  Look for Reallocated or Uncorrectable Sectors where the Real Value does not equal 0

 

If the drive is a Western Digital then you can use

WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics v1.31

(the extended or long test will take a while but is the best test of the drive.  If it passes then the drive is not at fault)

 

If the drive appears good then I suppose the RAM could be bad.

then save.  Right click on the file and Extract All, Extract.

 

They say if it runs without error for a full 5 passes then the RAM is good.

I have done some HP diagnostics that came up upon a boot and the hd and memory checked fine.  I have downloaded the Hirens for usb and have the exe on my desktop but when I click on process I get an error "error on copying ISO content to drive G (my usb drive)

You can't click on it but you can copy and past or just carefully retype it.

 

Save it to the same folder where the iso2usb lives and it should find it.

Finally got it to format and am running HD tune now....How do I fix a corrupted registry??

I'd pull off any data I needed and reformat the drive then reinstall Windows if I couldn't get a System Restore to work.  What version of Windows is this? Since you say it's fairly new I assume it's Win 10.  You can download Win 10 here:

Click on Download Tool Now and follow the instructions to create a bootable USB drive.  It should accept the license on the back of the PC.

I am attaching a pic of the benchmark scan and am doing the error scan now.  It is halfway through 1 TB with no damaged sectors so far....

It looks pretty decent - a bit slower than mine but I have a WD Black with a 128MB cache while yours only has a 32MB cache.  I'd say it's probably usable.

I'd probably run the memory test next.

 

Once you know the drive and memory are good then you can try to get windows to work but if you don't have any system restore points or backup copies of the registry there's not much you can do to restore your system.  Best to take off the data then wipe the drive and install a fresh copy using the link I gave you earlier.

Glad you got it working.  Let's check that it has drivers for everything:

 

Search for

device manager

hit Enter

then View, Show Hidden Devices.  
Now look for yellow flagged devices.  Right click on one and select properties then click on the Details tab.  
Change Property to Hardware IDs.  Click on the top one then right click and copy.  Paste that into a reply.  Repeat for all yellow flagged devices.
