Hello, lads.

After a very long time I'm again here for your special help.

 

Here what happen.

 

I use an old laptop, with an old OS (Sony Vaio, VGN-NS10J, Windows 7 Ultimate).

 

In the last months I (re)discovered my old colection of games, and I played some of them

I mention that I played from an external hard, and wasn't problems. Until yesterday.

After I finished a game called "Celtic Kings" and I exit from it, my desktop suffer a odd thing. It was in a tiny window, and seems that was the resolution. I changed at maximum (1280x800) and seems that was all ok. But wasn't.

When I enter again the game (which until then I played in fullscreen (widemode), now, in fullscreen, two black stripes on left and right sides. On game options, have big resolutions and can't select just the default one (that with black stripes, 1024x768).

The same thing happened with all other games that I played from laptop, not from external hard - the fullscreen it is not wide, it is in tiny window in a middle of black (like 800x600) or with nasty black stripes in left and right (like 1024x768). I mention that until now I haven't such problems.

I never be so carefull at details, but I am pretty sure that the things changed with videos from browser too. In some video-players, the fullscreen give only a grey image, just with sound, in others (like vimeo) - appear black stripes on lateral (tiny one) like the resolution it wasn't like always.

Another thing is with this resolution that I have, 1280x800. I don't remember that 800... but to be honest I never changed the screen resolution until now. The other two options for my laptop resolution are 800x600 and 1024x768.

It is like something happen with the resolution. The problem seems to be just with video part on browsers and games...

Right click on Computer and select manage then Device Manager or search for device manager and hit Enter.

 

Click on the arrow in front of Display Adapter.  Find your video/graphics device and right click on it and Uninstall.  Do not let it remove any files.  Reboot.  Windows should reinstall the adapter hopefully with the defaults and it might fix your problem.

 

If that doesn't help:

 

In the Search box type:  dxdiag

wait for it to find it.  Right click on dxdiag.exe and Run As Admin.

Hello.

After update the driver nothing happen.

The stripes remain.

But I discover something very nice when I check the advanced settings on display.

On this driver I can access Graphics Media Accelerator, and there I checked video scalling.

Now the games are widescreen!

Firefox & Chrome have Zoom but I don't think it makes them take up more room. 

 

Somewhere Windows has a Display option which makes things bigger or smaller but I think that's just icons & text. If it got changed to portrait instead of landscape that might cause problems. In Win 10 it's right click on the desktop and Display Settings.  Not sure on Win 7.
