The firewire driver was pretty busy during the 20 seconds that Lat Mon ran so it might be worth disabling it for a while to see if that makes any difference. 

 

The only thing I see in the VEW is:

As far as the case fan goes very few PCs have one these days but if your graphics card generates a lot of heat you might still need it.  If you disconnect it just watch the temps to make sure it doesn't start running hot again.

 

Run ShellExView again and take a screen shot of the disabled extensions.  You might also re-enable them and see if the problem gets worse.

Not really.  You said before you got some red  when you ran Latency Monitor for more than 20 seconds so do that and post the results.

Search for

 

device manager

hit Enter or right click on Computer and select Manage then Device Manager.

 

Locate the Firewire driver which is also known as ohci1384.sys.  Not sure what it is under.  You may have to click on the arrow in front of an entry to open it up/

 

If we have scared away the problem then that's good.  Re-enable all of the ShellExView items, reboot (or just restart Windows Explorer) and see if the problem comes back.

Disabled two entries in Device manager under "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers".  Confirmed no audio was heard through FireWire sound card by playing an mp3 file.

That's Windows Defender so maybe it started a scan while Latency Monitor was running.  Try it again with Windows Defender paused.

 

If you select the entries with missing files you can delete the entries by going to File, Remove Selected Items From ...My Computer.  No point in them being there if they don't have a file.  Mostly appear to be from Nvidia and PDF Forge. There is one: wuaucpl.cpl which is Windows Update AutoUpdate Control Panel which is probably really a Microsoft entry having to do with Windows Update.  Not really very important on a Win 7 since Updates are a thing of the past.

 

Make sure you start ShellExView by right clicking and Run As Admin.  As always you need to reboot or restart Windows Explorer to get it to take effect.

When I launch Defender, a dialog box says it's turned off, so I cannot pause it.

In ShellExView (ran as admin), Remove Selected Items From shows 3 greyed out options for any of the items I try to delete.

Don't know why Windows Defender is Off.  Certainly didn't appear off in Latency Mon.  Can you turn it on?

 

In ShellExView, double click on one of the entries you want to delete and a new window will popup.  Copy the value after CLSID.  Then open FRST and paste the CLSID value into the FRST search box. Type a semicolon ( (no spaces required then repeat for the other entries.  (No semicolon after the last entry, Hit Find in Registry.  You will get one file.  Please post.

Tried starting Windows Defender and after a 5minute freeze, it said I needed to start it manually or restart. I went to Services.msc and started manually, but then a dialog message told me that it started and then stopped immediately.
