Yeah, unfortunately there is no way to burn images under Windows alone. You could, however, download a free trial of Nero and burn it using that.

EDIT: Problem solved, it was of course my stupid self just burning CD images and not actual install CD's. Nero worked great and Linux is up and running. Thank you all very much for your help and support.

I don't believe xp supports burning images natively. You might have to get some burning software.... I believe both nero and ezcd creator support burning images not sure what else does though..... or if any freeware software does... I'll look if I get a chance.....
