Hi,

Ive been referred here from the malware dept after im experiencing several processes crash and explorer crash every so often sometimes the whole screen will just freeze, programs such as Netbeans or Microsoft Word (Ones which are err heavy on the cpu) Wont run at all the computer will just crash.

Download Speedfan (The download link is to the right), and install it. Once it's installed, run the program and post here the information it shows.

HWMonitor wouldnt install for some reason.

After i ran speedfan i decided to clean out each of the fans on my computer with the hoover i just re ran speedfan obviously its going to be colder now because ive just cleaned it but they have all decreased but the lag and slow processes remain. I also recently done a hard drive test with a program which comes with the computer Lenovo hard drive test and it passed all the sections it scans for.

Download Autoruns from the link in my signature below:

1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.
2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".
3: Click on the "Everything" tab
4: Remove any entries that mention "File Not Found" by right-clicking the entry and select Delete.
5: Go to File then to Export As or Save in some versions.
6: Save AutoRuns.txt file to known location like your Desktop.
7: Attach to your next reply.

Open Autoruns, click on "Logon" tab, and UN-check:

Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

• Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
• It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
• Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
• Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Download Auslogics Defrag from the link in my signature below. Auslogics Defrag in my opinion is better because:

It does a more comprehensive job at Defragging
It will actually show you what it is doing
At the end of working it will show you how much speed you picked up
You can view a online log of the files that Auslogics defragged
Please do not run any other Auslogics programs other then this one as they may cause unwanted results.

Hi, doing the defrag now TFC Ran for a while then it crashed

Defrag told me that when i clicked C Drive it was unadvisable to defrag a drive with less then 10% space, although i continued anyway its running now

Did you rerun TFC so it could complete or skipped it?
This may be the reason it is showing less then 10% free space. That could cause a corruption of the Master File Table or commonly called MFT. Accepted lowest free space level is 12 to 15 percent.
This would result in bootup issue, OS issues and could result in severe cases the system not being able to boot into windows at all.

Well c drive does have only 6gb free out of 125gb I dont know why, for some reason pagedmemory saves there filling it up. Hm Master file table? thats different to FAT Isnt it? because the drive is NTFS (This is great revision for my computing exam aswell )

You can boot into Safe Mode and run TFC from there. It is important to get it to run as that is what will get rid of a lot of trash files to free up space. Using Defrag without doing that will not open as much free space.

Hi it worked (im on Vista business)

The laptop doesnt feel the same is it did say 4 months ago minecraft use to run lag free, internet wasnt slow at all and Netbeans didnt freeze the freezing of processes has decreased but i wouldnt say its fast response still.


Also i brought an external hard drive (750GB)

Could you possibly tell me what things i could move across to free up space, would it be possible to make it so that Pagedfile.sys saves to the external hard drive rather than the c drive?

Also the thing 'windows readyboost'?


And would having a full desktop slow things down?

I would suggest any videos, movies and music be moved to the external first.

Done that i used Teracopy
