Must have been a bad server.

FIOS Quantum Internet, Is that what you're running BHowett ?

Joe

BHowett and you both display that your ISP's are Verizon FIOS in the image. So why the difference in speeds?

As posted by BHowett;

Up isn't great, but the tariff is advertised as 30mbps so can't complain :)

I have done a few tests now and virgin do seem fairly consistent, and touch wood, very little downtime so far ;)

I'm only interested in the up speed because sometimes I stream music to the internet. It's just a bedroom dj setup and I connect to a shoutcast server. I stream at a fairly low bit rate anyway, but it's nice to have a little headroom.

Well I've been with Virgin for about 5 years now on a daily basis and I reckon their servers have been down about 4 times tops.

They are without doubt the best ISP in the UK.

In fact one day a rep selling Sky BB approached me in Sainsbury's and after the spiel I said I'm with Virgin mate.

Sorry to bother you he said. :lol:

I used them about 8 or 9 years ago, when we first got broadband installed. They were called blueyonder back then I think. It was pretty bad, the service would be down for 2 or 3 days at a time and it would be down at least once a month. I thought never again. Have been with both sky and BT since then. I just moved into my new place a month ago and other people said they really liked virgin, so went with them. Day of installation - all working, then down for about 3 hours.. I thought here we go again. Luckily no other problems since. Guess I just got unlucky.

I think cable theft is the most responsible for ISP downtimes these days. Happened with Sky and BT a fair bit because the exchanges got raided. :ph34r:

An unfortunate episode mate that's true.

However anything is better than the old days when it was dial-up.

Very true... For those who have never experienced the internet using a 56K modem...then this is for you.

:lol: Yes!! I'd forgotten about that.

Freind - "I've been trying to call you but your phone's been engaged for ages?"
Me - "Yeah, I was on the net".
