My laptop takes forever to start up and shut down. It freezes while loading new tabs, and freezes while I am typing. I use Firefox and have Avast antivirus. It will not defragment at all. What can I do to resolve these problems??

:welcome:

Could you please tell us the brand/model of your laptop?

Here's something you can try to speed up the boot process, until we can learn a little more about your system.  Click Show.

Additionally, if you have a bunch of add-ons, toolbars, etc that you don't need/want then try this:

One of the MODs may want to verify your system doesn't have malware.  I'm posting this as something you may want to try until someone else can better assist you.  :whistling:

Good luck!
