Hi guys.

 

I'm planning on building a PC soon, and I wanna play games like Alien: Isolation and Arma 3, etc. Modern games basically, at 1080p with steady FPS.

I would also consider going with a 240 GB SSD operating system drive, and 1TB for games and storage, but thats solely personal preference and not necessity.
 

I'll link the how to for SSD OS drive setup for posterity including as well as how to manage what goes where using symlinking.

smh...

 

Your processor is massive overkill. You do not need an i7 for gaming. You, cannot take advtnage of the benefits (WHich is mainly designed for Rendering videos, photoshop editing etc.

 

A Quad-core i5, such as the infamous i5 4690k would be much more suitable.

 

You've selected an OC board, designed for overclocking, but the lack of "k" on the i7 4790 you've chosen will not allow for overclocking. Do you WISH to overclock?

 

 

You have no video card. You won't be running Arma III or any form of that game at 1080p without a card. A 960 would likely be best: http://www.amazon.co...ode=10779868011

 

Unless you plan on overclocking, the cpu coller isn't needed.

 

Edit: I forgot the most important part... You have not selected an OS. May I presume you have access to an Install disc for Windows and/or Linux?

 

So, final questions.

 

Are you going to overclock?

Are you going to render movies/videos, edit pictures etc?

What is your budget (In Euro's, seeing as you're UK.)

Thanks for the speedy reply all. I did have a video card but I must have forgotten to post it, it's the GTX 970.

No I didn't wish to overclock, I'll look to find one that doesn't support overclocking - I don't actually need to.

Thanks for the call about the i7. I occasionally edit video but not enough to get an i7 so thanks for that.

 

Thanks all - any idea what I should get for a mobo?

MOBO depends a lot on your CPU/RAM choice.
