The problem: All of a sudden I was typing along and then I just...wasn't. Like the laptop stopped showing what I was typing, but it still kept doing the little chime (or ding) sounds every time I'd press a key. I plugged in my back-up keyboard, and it did the same thing, still didn't show up what I was typing on the monitor but it would make the sound every time I press a key. The touchpad mouse built into the laptop still works.
I tried restarting my computer, and then it worked normally for a few minutes, and then stopped again. When it started up this time, it let me log in, but then it wouldn't let me enter any more info. I decided to restore my computer (the kind of restore where it keeps my file, but removes apps and resets settings to default.) After the restore it just doesn't accept what I'm typing at all, so I can't even log in with my password or do much of anything anymore, but it still does the chime when I try to type.
My wireless keyboard does the same thing (chime sound when keys are pressed, but nothing I type shows up on the monitor), but the very same wireless keyboard works on my other laptop, which is what I'm typing to you on now. So, we know that the keyboard works, and that the laptop in question is receiving the info I'm entering, BUT it's just not showing it for some reason. Please help!
The result: I just get stuck at the screen with my name and email address and a box for me to enter my password to log in.) It still makes the chime sounds when I press the keys, but obviously still not showing what I'm typing.
My system: Dell computer with Windows 10 (I installed windows 10 a couple months ago, and this is the first time I've had this problem.)

Exactly the same thing happened to my wife's HP laptop, tonight.
Keyboard works fine for Windows password.
After Windows actually starts:
Beeps with each keystroke, Otherwise, no effect from keys (including Num Lock and Caps Lock keys, which work until Windows actually takes-over).
Two USB keyboard, and internal keyboard, all have this problem.
In Device Manager: Uninstalled all keyboards (including the hidden ones). Rebooted.
No change!
This is obviously a bug introduced by one of Win10s automatic upgrades.

Turned-off the "Filter Keys" feature. This fixed the problem.
