running win 7 32 bit on Dell desktop. When I start up the computer windows loads up with no problems but when the desktop page loads the computer reboots into windows recovery mode. I tried safe mode and the computer boots up but don't know what to look for. If I restart normal startup, it does the same routine back to recovery mode.

Try making a new user account (with admin rights) then reboot into regular mode and see if you can get the new account to work.

Go to Services tab and click on the box to hide Microsoft Services then uncheck
everything that remains.  Go to Startup tab and uncheck everything.  OK and
reboot into regular mode.  Does that work?

I created a new user with admin privileges and rebooted but still would not work. then booted into safe mode, ran msconfig. Went to services, clicked to hide Microsoft services. all the boxes were checked so I unchecked each item shown. Then went to Startup and unchecked everything listed. clicked OK and rebooted but that did not work. Got the same results, booted up to desktop and then rebooted to Windows Recovery mode. Should I delete the original user?

Go back into msconfig and on the General page, check Diagnostic Startup and OK then Reboot.

 

If that doesn't work try selecting the Enable Low Resolution option in the Safe Mode Menu.  Also try Last Known Good if you haven't already.
