No blue screens...the machine just gets to a certain point...and freezes. I can tell my the repeating sound form the drive when it's stuck...I'm going to try safe mode with networking and connect.

Hello,

Open HiJackThis, and check the following:
O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)

Close all programs, except for HiJackThis, and check Fix Checked.

Next, Open MS Config
Click Start,
Click Run
Type in MSCONFIG

Select the "Normal Mode" Radio button.
Select Apply
Select Ok

Reboot your computer into safemode, and post a new HiJackThis log for me.

Norton has been known to cause a lot of problems. Im not saying this will fix it, but you can unisntall Norton, and get AVG free, which is a better virus program in my opinion.

Let me know what you want to do.

I am more than willing to uninstall norton, but I can't get the add/remove list to populate before the machine freezes

Thanks...I have a feeling that will involve the XP install CD, which I do not have with me. I leave work in 7 minutes. I guess I'll check back next Wednesday, when I have the opportunity at work to try again.

Hi DangerousThing...

I understand you're having a few problems...let's see if we can get things straightened out a bit.

Let's REPAIR your installation of XP. This procedure will not damage or change your current files or settings...it will just repair or replace damaged system files. You will be asked for your Installation CD and may be asked for your product key. Follow the instructions carefully...print them out if you can. Note: This option is not always available on OEM Recovery Cd's

Once this repair has completed, you will have to download all Windows Updates again.

Give me a shout when you are ready to begin this procedure and I'll hang out with you in case we run into any unexpected problems... :whistling:
