Hi,
Please help me my laptop is so messed up. I was hacked yesterday and all kinds of things were planted. I have done eveything that I can find relevant in other posts and got rid of some but Surfside Kick 3 and the trojans will not go away. This is what I have done so far (several times). Ran a Virus scan with AVG, ran spybot, adaware, noadware, Ewido (in safe mode and out) and Bfu. Below is my highjackthis log. Please help!

Dear bubbles4u35, please go to the following link: http://www.microsoft...p1/network.mspx.
To download Windows "XP Service Pack 1a" update for your windows xp operatings system. When your computer system is clean afterwards, then update to windows XP service pack 2, because updating to SP2 CAN cause problems as long as you are infected.

Hi Rambro
While installing service pack 1a the first time, I recieved 2 buffer errors which shut me down and locked me out of windows. I finally got back up and tried to install again and recieved the following error message.

"Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions of these files. To maintain system stability Windows must restore the original versions. The network location from which these files should be copied c\windows\servicepackfiles\i386/gdiplus.man is not available."

Now what?

Hi Rambro,
This is the message I recieved after going to the validation link. I had to answer some questions in that next question. One was are the words OEM on computer and they are not. When I answered the questiuons it brought me to the download updates screen which I wasnt sure if I should do so didnt. I am doing the
start and run directions you gave me and will post the new highjack log. Sorry this is taking so long for me to reply but I have to wade through alot of popups to get anything done .

"Thank you for running the Windows Validation Assistant. It appears that your Windows Product Key is valid.

This is a strong indicator that your operating system is genuine, however the Windows Validation Assistant cannot make a final determination.

To verify that you received a genuine Certificate of Authenticity and software CD, compare your anti-piracy features in the next section."

Dear bubbles4u35, :whistling:

You have the Look2Me virus on your computer. I would like you to run Atri's Look2Me-Destroyer.exe fix to get rid of this Look2Me virus from your computer.

See the following link as a reference: http://www.atribune....ontent/view/28/.

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.
  • Close all windows before continuing.
  • Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 1 minute. Click OK
  • When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
  • You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
  • When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Your computer will then shutdown.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
In addition, let me know in detail how your computer system is running after performing the above steps.

Hi Rambro,

Here is the second Look2me log. The first one disappeared off my desktop before I copied it. Following is the new hjk log. My computer is running better now. The popups have decreased. I have some .dll files and 2 window login files that are missing on start up, Im not sure what happened to them.

Dear bubbles4u35, :whistling:

You may have a "Qoologic" virus on your computer system.

Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop. (rightclick on this link and choose save as, if using IE save target as)
  • Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
  • Click "Next"
  • In the box to choose where to extract the files to,
  • Click "Browse"
  • Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
  • Click on "Local Disk (C:) or whatever your primary drive is
  • Click "Make New Folder"
  • Type in BFU
  • Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
  • Download qoofix.bat (rightclick on this link and choose save as, if using IE save target as)
  • Place qoofix.bat in your C:\BFU - folder. (Important!)
  • Doubleclick qooFix.bat, Close all browsers and explorer folders.
  • Choose option 1 (Qoolfix autofix) and follow the prompts.
  • Please be patient, it will take about five minutes.
  • After the PC has restarted please post another hijackthis log.
In addition, let me know in detail how your computer system is running after performing the above steps.

Rambro,
I ran the qoolfix Autofix. Upon restarting I recieved an error screen that said I had changed hardware or software and where I had to choose to start windows normally, last good start or in safe mode. I tried all three then shut down a couple times and finally it started up normally. Here is the new hjk log. I am still recieving the missing .dll files and win login files.
Thank You
Bubbs

Dear bubbles4u35, :whistling:

Just a reminder, don't add any new software to your computer (unless I ask you to) while we are in the process of clearing your computer of spyware.
************************

I am still recieving the missing .dll files and win login files.

The above concerns me, that is why I want you to try two things:

Please go to Start -> Run -> cmd and press Enter. At the command prompt type sfc /scannow, making sure to put a space between the "c" and the slash, and then press Enter. This will run the System File Checker. Follow the prompts, and insert your Windows installation CD if requested. Then please restart your computer.

Here is a link for reference: http://www.theelderg.../repair_ie6.htm
***********

Next, I not to happy, that you cannot get windows xp service pack 1 on your computer system. Please make another attempt to install this on your computer again (i.e. see Post #2).
********************

Launch Notepad (start -> run -> "notepad"), and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Select "all files" in the "save as type" field. Save it as FindFile.bat and save it on your Desktop.

dir "C:\Documents and Settings\Ed\My Documents\??crosoft" /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Locate FindFile.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it. It will open Notepad with some text in it. Please post the text here in a reply to this post.

Dear bubbles4u35, :whistling:

Clean out temporary and Temporary Internet files. Go to Start -> Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin
**********************

Try to download any "Critical" Microsoft Windows Updates from Microsoft for your Windows XP operating system (except windows xp service pack 2).
******************

Try to scan your computer with your "AVGFree" antivirus software, and fix anything it finds.
*******************

Restart your computer and then please post a new HijackThis log, along with the contents of the "files.txt" log from my previous post.

In addition, let me know in detail how your computer system is running after performing the above steps. :help:

Hello Rambro,
Thank you for all you're doing to help me. I ran the cleanmgr, downloaded and instaslled critical updates (except service pack 2) ran AVG and fixed the problems it found. I am still having problems starting my computer I get the same error where windows will not start normally. It takes several attempts to get windows to boot up. I am also still recieving the .dll files and 2 winlogin files missing errors. Below is the new Hjk log and the files.txt log you requested in a previous post ( sorry my eyes were drooping by then didnt see that part hope I did it right.) :whistling:
