Make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files. Here is how to do this:

Windows XP

* Click "Start".
* Open "My Computer".
* Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
* Select the "View" Tab.
* Under the "Hidden files and folders" heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
* Make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked
* Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
* Click "Yes" to confirm.
* Click "OK".

And thank you for the Mazillla link. I will download and use it as my primary browser when my computer is clean. Right now I am using Netscape because of the Explorer problems, but im not crazy about it.

Dear bubbles4735, I would like you execute this post, it similiar to an earlier post I gave you but I have made some revisions, so go through each step. One revision is the following, when creating a "registry" backup call the backup, "backup1.reg" to distinguish it from the "backup.reg" you already have on your desktop. I made a mistake in my last post, concerning the "Avenger" part of this post (i.e. I changed it to "C:\Program Files\E2G" to represent a folder).

Dear bubbles4u35, I would like you to edit your "registry settings", but before you do that, I want you to make a back up copy of your "registry" in case something goes wrong. Here is how this is done:

Back up your current registry

1) Click on the Start button.

2) From the menu that appears, choose Run.

3) In the window that appears, there is a text area labeled Open. In that area, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks").

4) Click the OK button (or hit the Enter or Return key on your keyboard).

5) The Registry Editor window should open.

6) If My Computer is not highlighted, click on it once so that it is highlighted.

7) On the menu bar, click on Registry and then click on Export Registry File.

8) The Export Registry File window will appear. In the Save In drop-down box at the top, choose Desktop.

9) In the File Name box at the bottom, type "backup1" (without the quotation marks), then click the Save button.

10) A backup copy of the entire registry will now be saved to your desktop in case something goes wrong.

Notes:

* To restore the registry from the backup file you made, follow the same steps as above, but in step 2 choose Import Registry File instead of Export Registry File. Or, alternatively, you could double-click on the backup file on the desktop and answer Yes when it asks if you want to import the information into the registry.
* Once you've made changes to the registry and you are sure that you no longer need the backup file you made, simply delete it from the desktop.

• After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
• The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply Add/Reply

I would like you to generate a "Startup List" log using the HijackThis application. Here is how you can do this:

Restart your computer.

• Open Hijackthis, In the lower right corner click the "Config..." (Configuration) button.
• Once in the "Configuration" panel, click "Misc Tools" button.
• Next to the "Generate StartupList log" button, place a check in the checkboxes "List also minor sections" (full) and "List empty sections (complete).
• Then click the "Generate StartupList log" button.
• Click "Yes" to the box that pops-up.
• Then copy and paste the notepad text that appears in the generated "startuplist.txt" file in a reply to this post.

Restart your computer, and then please post a new HijackThis log, along with the "Startup List" log using the HijackThis application.

Click Start then Control Panel then Add and Remove Programs. Look for the following installed program/programs and if they are listed click on each one and then click on the Remove or Change button and if asked select "Yes" or "Ok" to remove:

Restart your computer.

Run HijackThis and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entry/entries (if they exist):

O2 - BHO: CControl Object - {3643ABC2-21BF-46B9-B230-F247DB0C6FD6} - C:\Program Files\E2G\IeBHOs.dll

Close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix Checked" button to finish the repair. Close the HijackThis application.

Next, make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files. Here is how to do this:

Windows XP

* Click "Start".
* Open "My Computer".
* Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
* Select the "View" Tab.
* Under the "Hidden files and folders" heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
* Make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked
* Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
* Click "Yes" to confirm.
* Click "OK".

Delete the following folder/folders marked in blue (if they exist):

Finally, clean out temporary and Temporary Internet files. Go to Start -> Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

Restart your computer.

Hi Rambro,

The program E2give Plug-in was not in the program files.

I fixed O2 - BHO: CControl Object - {3643ABC2-21BF-46B9-B230-F247DB0C6FD6} - C:\Program Files\E2G\IeBHOs.dll deleted the folder C:\Program Files\E2G. and ran the cleanmgr.

My computer is running better. The popups still come in spurts. Ewido is no longer giving me a threat warning. I am not using it as much as I normally would so not sure if there is anything else that may be going on.

I would like you to generate a "Add/Remove Software list" log using the HijackThis application. Here is how you can do this:

Restart your computer.

• Open Hijackthis, In the lower right corner click the "Config..." (Configuration) button.
• Once in the "Configuration" panel, click "Misc Tools" button.
• Then click the "Open Uninstall Manager..." button.
• The "Add/Remove Programs Manager" panel should appear.
• In this panel click the "Save list" button.
• Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file to its default location.
• Then copy and paste the notepad text that appears in the generated "unistall_list.txt" file in a reply to this post.
