Hey guys.

Recently I upgraded both my computer and my brother's to Windows 7 from XP. For the first month it went beautifully on mine. And then the flickering began. At first it only happened on the taskbar. Now when I say flickering, I mean that certain parts of the taskbar would vanish, showing me the background behind the taskbar on my desktop. The vanished parts would appear and disappear and appear over and over again until I opened up a window and then minimised it. :)

So for a good week that happened. And then it stopped for a few days. Or so I thought. Then it began happening to Chrome and Microsoft Word. Very recently it's begun on any program I use. It's particularly annoying in Chrome as it flickers constantly until I minimise and then within minutes of me doing this it happens again. And of course my brother's computer doesn't do this so naturally I figured something weird is on mine. I haven't bothered reinstalling programs as it seems to affect everything I open. :)

Nothing I do except minimising seems to fix the problem. It is incredibly annoying as I am sure you can imagine. :)

Any input or ideas would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hi. :)

It is a desktop computer.

If it is video card overheating, does that mean the video card needs to be replaced?

We don't know, if it's overheating, but it'd be first thing to check.
If you've never done it before, or lately, get a can of compressed air (DO NOT use anything else), open the case and do a nice cleaning there.
While cleaning fans, hold the blades with a pencil to avoid any damage fro spinning.
Do you have separate video card, or on-board video?

Hi again. :)

I haven't cleaned it for a long while so I'll follow your instructions.

It is an on board video card (Intel Q965/Q963 Express Chipset Family).

Thanks. :)

Sure thing :)
Do that, and we'll see, if it helps. If not, we'll go from there.

Hi Broni.

I gave it a shot but as of yet haven't noticed any change. :)

Also, yesterday I observed the flickering at one point to be quite faster than it has been. :)

Your CPU is seriously overheating.
Are you sure, you used that compressed air to clean everything well inside?

I'm pretty sure I got everywhere I could but if you recommend I do it again I will. I must say it was pretty dirty and full of dust.

Pay special attention to CPU fan and surrounding area. Make sure, you hold the blades with a pencil, or a chopstick.

I'd be seriously concerned about using this computer before the issue is solved.
You can cause serious damage to the CPU, if it keeps overheating.

Hi Broni. :)

I tried the compressed air again and then ran the speed fan.

The new temperatures are as follows:

Temp1: 31C
Temp2: 37C
Temp3: 25C
Core0: 45C
Core1: 42C
Core2: 41C
Core3: 40C

All the Cores have green ticks while the Temps have blue arrows. I'll let you know if the flickering continues.

I'll monitor these temperatures each day; if the temperatures rise again what would be your advice?
