That is not good as that is what needs to be on the system.

The G50 comes with 64bit Vista so you can use all 4Gb of ram in windows.

This is what I found to be the default OS for that system.
You could try to contact Asus Directly and see about the original recovery disks whuch will contain the OS and all original drivers for your system. This will help in case of furture issues.
Now the tricky part is without that COA number you may not be able to reinstall. A little program that might help you get your Reg number Magic Jelly Bean

Hello,

I was just googling this because I have the same problem - however, I don't think Windows Update is the problem. I've installed Windows 7 4 times now - the first time from a Vista OS. A few days after installing, and some automatic updates, the computer gets to the Gamer Icon when starts and then stops on a black screen with a blinking cursor. I reinstalled 7, and a few days later, same problem. When i reinstalled a third time, I turned off automatic updates, and didn't install any of them, but the same thing happened after a few days. I would like to use Windows 7, rather than go back to Vista...
